Post Medieval (17th to 19th century) probably tankard lid: The copper alloy lid is circular in plan, and domed in profile. At the apex there is an integral handle which has concave sides, and at the terminal flares outwards to form a circular platform. The upper face of this platform has a slight lip at the edge and an annulet in the centre. The lid itself is decorated with a slightly flange around the base and a ridge towards the handle. The sherd is a handle fragment, probably of a tankard. The handle is curved in profile. One terminal is flattened and flares outwards in plan as it was originally joined to the wall of the vessel. The opposite terminal is a broken terminal. In section the handle is a sub-rectangle with rounded edges and a central off-centre shallow 'V' shape. The sherd is a body fragment, probably of a tankard. The wall of the vessel is straight in profile, rather than convex. Protruding from the exterior surface is the terminal of a handle. The handle has been broken off. The sherds' fabric is quite soft, with a slightly powdery surface. It has a light orange coloured surface with a mid grey coloured core. There are two sherds from two different tankards. Both are wheel made from Severn Valley ware. One sherd is a rim, with a horizontal groove just below the rim as decoration. The second sherd is a body sherd with a fragment of a handle remaining. The sherds are quite abraded, and togther weigh 36.29g.
