A cast lead alloy slug or shot for use in a pistol of post medieval date (AD1600-1800). The shot is cylindrical with a relatively well formed surface patina. It is well formed, suggesting that it has not been fired. One end is flat and the other is slightly domed, and the circumference of the cylinder has been shaved, leaving eight facets The colour of the projectile is a pale grey-white. It shows some signs of surface scarring, probably caused by agricultural machinery; there is no delamination on the surface of the shot. Similar shot have been dated to the later post-medieval per…

The shot is 11.5mm diameter. And has a visible casting seam on each. The surface of the lead or lead alloy has a shiny mid mottled grey. The header and shot measure 41.31mm long, 18.13mm wide and 14.96mm thick from the top of the header to the base of the…

All are pitted and scratched and have a mid- to light grey patina. The shots range in size from c.10mm to c.15mm. As such the larger shots would have been fired by carbines and the smaller by small pistols (Richard Bradley, Worcestershire Archaeology 2020 pers. comm.). Whilst there are several thousand shots recorded on the PAS database it is the exact location of the find that is important to re…
