An incomplete cast copper alloy seal matrix, dating to the Medieval period, between AD 1250-1400 (length: 21mm; diameter at base: 17.5mm; width at suspension loop: 6mm; thickness at loop: 4mm; weight: 6.37g). The seal matrix has sub-hexagonal base with a protruding hexagonal stem, which terminates in an incomplete moulded suspension loop at the opposing end. A cast copper-alloy seal matrix of medieval date. The seal matrix is hexagonal in shape and is flat with a central pierced rib terminating in a lug on the reverse. The front has a central device representing a pair of clasped hands, above which (or below, depending on which way it is held) there is a fleur-de-lis. The device is set within a hexagonal border. Around this border a legend is arranged. This begins with a star and appears to read S'ROB'T DE LYE, which translates as Seal of Robert of Lye. A medieval lead seal matrix of pointed oval (vesica) type, dating from the 13th or 14th centuries AD. The seal matrix measures 37.69 mm long, 22.75 mm wide and 4.2 mm thick. It weighs 16.1 grams. The reverse has a central perforated handle. The front has a central device which consists of a cross formed from four plumes and a sword pointing in towards the centre of the plumes at each angle, all set within a lozenge border. The seal matrix is a pyramid type with a hexagonal shaped stem in cross section. The stem terminates with a sub-lozenge shape in plan with a central circular hole within. The base is circular in plan. The die has a linear border, within which is a central 'I' with a crown above (the crown cuts the border). Either side of the 'I' is a corn stalk/branch. The corn stalk/branch has a central line intersected by column of 'V' shapes. The whole matrix has a dark green coloured patina.
