Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Mesolithic to early Neolithic (8300 to 3500 BC) core: The core is sub-oval in section which has vertical cylindrical with a sub-oval section with vertical linear scars and other scars which are perpendicular to the others. There is a trace of a patch of patina which is the only part of the surface which has not been knapped at a later date. The core measures 30.59mm long, 24.35mm wide, is 15.09mm thick and weighs 12.38g. The core probably dates to the Mesolithic to early Neolithic period.

Early Neolithic (-4000 to -3500) lithic implement : Y-shaped tool. The tool is knapped from a dark coloured flint whose surface may just be starting to develop a patina. The dorsal surface has two vertical scars and a third scar which is perpendicular to the other scars. The ventral surface has one deep scar with slight ripples. There is no bulb of percussion and the proximal surface may have been removed. The distal end on the dorsal surface is concave produced by short, abrupt retouch. It is too wide to be a notch. The implement has been made from a thick flake. It weighs 18.9g a…

Probable Mesolithic to early Bronze Age (8000 - 1000BC) retouched flake: The flint flake is knapped from a mottled brown flint. The ventral surface has a bulb of percussion and slight conchoidal ripples. The dorsal surface has a three negative scars. A lateral edge has two small curved notches which have been formed by abrupt re-touch. The flake measures 25.53mm long, 21.65mm wide, 6.14mm thick and weighs 2.94g. Retouched flakes are difficult to date as they are present throughout prehistory. Thus, a wide date range for this piece is suggested.

A complete flint debitage flake of the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age period, dating from c. BC 3000 - BC 1500. The object is broadly leaf shape in plan and triangular in section. There are the remains of a pronounced bulb of percussion at the proximal end of the ventral face, with evidence of shallow concoidal ripple marks. There appears to be evidence of short, parallel, abrupt retouch on the right edge towards the distal end. On the dorsal face around 25% of the cortex remains. There is evidence of long, parallel, semi abrupt retouch on the left side towards the proximal end. O…

Approximately 75% of the arrowhead is present, with one of the barbs missing. The arrowhead has been knapped from a dark grey coloured piece of flint. It is broadly sub-triangular in shape and lentoid in cross section. The tang is damaged and the surviving barb is rounded. Both long sides / edges of the arrowhead have been finely retouched to create sharp edges. The arrowhead has been bifacially worked with invasive, scaled, and low angle retouch. Similar flint barb and tanged arr…
