The possible harness pendant is complete but has lost the suspension mount and is comparatively small (with an overall length of 18.6mm and a weight of 1.2g). The loop is oval (7mm long, 4.6mm deep, 0.8mm – 2.6mm thick and with a diameter of 2.5mm). The cast item is fragmentary and comprises the looped attachment and shaft (with a surviving length of 20.1mm and a weight of 4.5g). The solid loop is of oval section with a circular perforation (with an internal diameter of 4.0mm, an external diameter of 7.8mm and a width of 4.2mm). Roman copper alloy bow brooch of Headstud Type and of 2nd century AD date
The brooch is fragmentary, missing the leg and pin (with a surviving length of 27.7mm, a surviving depth of 16.3mm and a weight of 6.8g). The brooch has a spring mechanism, which remain in place. The spring is around a ferrous axis bar secured with perforated end lugs and with the chord tensioned by a vertical lug on the rear of the head-plate. The finger-ring is incomplete, missing the basal part of the hoop (with a surviving length of 15.8mm, a width of 20.8mm, an internal diameter of 17mm and a weight of 3.6g). A cast lead alloy Medieval or Post Medieval uniface token (c. AD 1250-1800). The token is circular in plan and measures 21.2mm in diameter, 2.5mm thick and weighs 4.85g. The obverse is decorated with a cast boat or ship motif represented by a half-moon shape with five small lines demonstrating the curve of the shape. Three pellets are centred below the ship. What appears to be a sail rises from the ship in a curved profile to a point. The reverse face is undecorated. A cast copper alloy awl of uncertain date. The awl has a 32mm long circular sectioned tapering point that narrows into a bent square sectioned tang 2.3mm thick which flattens slightly towards the end. The awl has a black patina and a pitted surface. Awls are difficult to date out of context, and this example could date from the Bronze Age right up to the Medieval period. If the awl is roman, it could be classified as a Manning’s (1985) Type 4b.
