An incomplete copper alloy Post Medieval spur (c. AD 1600-1750). The rowel is missing. The gap between the terminals is 68.32mm and each terminal consists of a figure-of-eight double off-set loop that joins the arm at a moulded collar. The moulded collar is more pronounced on the right arm than the left arm. The main body of the frame is plano-convex, with a flat reverse and rounded front, giving the main body of the frame a D-shaped cross section. The inner edge of a cast single looped buckle frame with a narrowed and offset strap bar retained by a sub-triangular metal plate secured by folding around the strap bar. A post medieval copper alloy (tombac) button dating to the 18th century. The button is flat and circular. At the reverse is an incomplete shank that would have extended into a loop to allow the button to be sewn to a garment. The front face is decorated with a multi petalled flower. There is a very similar design recorded by Bailey (2004) page 47, no 35. Bailey explains how the patterns on 18th century tombac buttons were hand engraved leading to great variation.
