Parts of the outer edge of the coin are missing and there is a c.2.65mm tear near the centre of the obverse from around 5 o'clock to around 6 o'clock with two c.0.90mm long tears at either end of the main tear. An incomplete, very worn medieval silver penny of Richard II (1377-99), Type 1B (North 1329b), mint: York. Ref: North 1991: 63; Purvey 1962: p.91, cf. pl.VI no. 22. The obverse bust has a small pellet above the shoulders and (possibly) a cross on the breast. A saltire appears to be present at the beginning of the reverse legend before CIVI, and a pellet before EBO; an extra pellet is seen in quarter 3 under the B of EBO.
