A silver circular disc, possibly a reused token, pierced to be hung as a pendant. Obverse decoration: five-pointed star (pentagram) consisting of double lines with each point extending beyond the outer edge of the pendant. The pentagram lines are decorated with short straight lines protruding at right angles, giving a textured or feathered appearance. In the centre of the pentagram is a sub-circular, roughly spiral design, again double lined, with punched-dot decoration within, possibly representing a skull. The reverse of the pendant shows faint circular design - this maybe from an e…

Object type: CASTING WASTE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Warwickshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An irregular fragment of copper alloy casting waste, of uncertain dating, but possibly Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval (1400 - 1800 AD). The casting waste fragment consists of a sub rectangular sheet, with uneven, almost bubbly surfaces. It is sub rectangular in cross section. Two edges are smooth and unabraded, indicative of a fairly recent break. It is a mid grey colour, with a couple of areas which display a distinctive shiny sheer to it. This shiny sheer is suggestive that the copper alloy has a high tin content. The weight of the fragment is suggestive that lead …

Treasure Case 2012 T338: Gold Droplet from Brailes, Warwickshire. Casting waste, comprising a complete amorphous droplet of gold or gold alloy. The droplet measures 14.77mm long, 8.37mm wide and 6.71mm thick, weighing 5.1g. Iron Age coins have been recovered from the same farm (Treasure Case 2012 T726), and it has been suggested that gold such as this may have been connected with Iron Age gold working, such as coin production or recycling. However, a similar piece (2004 T408) was determined to be undiagnostic and undatable following metal analysis.

A circular lead spindle whorl. The spindle whorl is plano-convex and undecorated. The central perforation for the spindle is approximately 9.8 mm in diamater. It measures 32.06 mm in diameter, 9.5 mm thick and weighs 43.1 grams. It is plain and undecorated. As such objects were used for a wide period of time, from the Roman period through to the post-medieval, the dating for this plain example is uncertain.

A lead circular probable weight of undetermined date. The weight has unifacial decoration consisting of several irregular curved lines dividing the face into triangular 'wedges'. The reverse is plain. The weight is pierced with an off-centre sub-circular hole which measures approximately 3.15 mm in diameter. The small size of the hole suggests that this object is not a spindle whorl. The weight is 6.27 mm thick, 25.6 mm in diameter and weighs 29.8 grams. It has a cream coloured patina.

A possible fragment of copper alloy casting waste. The waste is a possible sprue or jet from a moulded object. The sprue has a irregular head which as an integral conical beneath, which vaguely resembles a stud. The head and stud elements have an uneven surface and abraded edges. There are traces of a mid green patina. It measures 25.39mm long, 16.93mm wide and weighs 10.1g. The object is too irregular to be a purposeful object, and the surface with the single stem perhaps suggests it may be a sprue rather than a stud. The surface is abraded and does not have a heavy patina which i…

The back face is plain, the front face has some decoration in the form of incised lines. There is a wavy line running horizontally along the centre which splits at one end. There are also some marks which could be meant to represent scales/hair. This is possibly a mount from a vessel or furniture although as it is so fragmentary it is hard to say.
