An incomplete copper-alloy mount or strap mount probably dating from the post-Medieval period, about AD 1500 - 1800. The mount is a broken  'egg timer' shape with concave sides and bulbous ends. There is a single copper alloy rolled rivet positioned at one end, beyond the bulbous area. It was probably in the centre of the mount, which is probably missing another half similarly shaped to the surviving part. It is decorated only with small notches in the edge on the corners of the bulbous areas, and has a mid green patina. On the reverse is a small rectangular rove…

Copper alloy mount. Cast concavo-convex figurative mount representing the naturalistically rendered maned mask of a lion. A tousled mane surrounds a feline face with rounded features, round eyes and small ears, with a ‘beard’ below the mouth. The eyes are round with pupils modelled – one brow is lowered, though the slightly quizzical effect might be the result of a minor abrasion rather than imaginative modelling. Extensive traces of white metal plating are trapped in the modelled detail of the display side. The back is hollowed and rounded, though the casting still a…

A Medieval silver gilt mount depicting a knight emerging from a snail shell on the back of a quadruped, probably a goat, probably dating from AD 1200 - 1350. The mount has a flat reverse and moulded front. In the centre of the reverse is a short circular integral rivet with a slightly burred end. There are also many striations on the reverse, in different directions, perhaps suggesting a cuttlefish shell casting, but they are not characteristically curved, and are probably also the result of filing. The probable goat has a long wavy wool coat, and is depicted lying with its …
