Cross potent mint mark, reverse barred N and wedge abbreviation marks. The flan is damaged on the outer edge between 12 and 2 o'clock on the obverse. A Medieval gold coin; a noble of Edward III (AD 1327 - 1377), Pre-Treaty coinage, probably Series G dating from AD 1356 - 1361. London mint. See North (1991) number 1179 - 1183 on page 52. The initial mark is not very clear, but it does not appear to be a cross, but just an upright. The coin was bent when it was found, as illustrated. The conservator who straightened the coin suggested that the bending was probably plough damage, but coins in the Medieval period are known to have been deliberately bent too. It has a diameter of 33mm and weighs 7.6g.
