A heavily worn polished and clipped milled silver coin - most probably a sixpence of William III (1694-1702). The edges of the coin have been folded in three places and due to this folding and the polished nature of the coin it is suggested that this may represent a love token. A heavily polished silver disc which may once have been a post medieval coin - Elizabeth I half-groat - Charles I half groat. An alternative identification is that it may have been a silver insert from a post medieval button. No details survive - but the surface has been marked with distinct punched points. A pierced silver half groat or possibly a penny of Charles I - the exterior is slightly clipped and so the type is difficult to date more closely - it is likely to have been struck after 1630 and may date from the period 1642-4. The coin has been pierced by a rectangular shaped punch from the reverse though to the obverse at 11 o'clock on the reverse - the spall of the metal hole has been flattened on the obverse face. A heavily clipped half crown of Charles I which has been trimmed to the size of a sizpence but the weight of a Shilling. Due to the loss of all the inscription it is hard to refine the date - although it is likely to correspond with the bust of the third - fifth horseman suggesting a date c. 1631-1649 Obverse: heavily worn horseman - sword upright, cap spread behind - no plume Reverse: oval garnished shield Die Axis: 2 North 2209-2213

A heavily worn and very polished medieval penny of Edward I (1272-1307). The mint and coin sub-type cannot be identified due to the polished condition which seems deliberate and contemporary with loss. Such augmentation might suggest that this coin was a touch piece or significant for some reason - now lost. From what remains of the bust a date in the period 1301-1310 can be suggested due to the bi-foliate type of crown. Obverse: Crowned head facing, the crown has a high central lis, bi-foliate side fleurs and globular ornaments, the drapery is formed of wedges and there is no evi…

A complete ground and polished axehead formed of a very fine grained siliceous stone / banded flint of probable Neolithic date (3000-2000 BC). The axe is knapped from a flint which has banded colours which range from a bale cream buff through to a deep chocolate brown. There are areas of mid orange staining across the body and this is possibly as a result in the burial environment - possibly indicating deposition within soils that are iron rich or have a predilection towards iron panning / waterlogging. The matrix of the stone is smooth although areas of highly polished mid grey white…

A complete but heavily eroded cast copper alloy / bronze socketed axe / axehead of diminuitive size dating from the later Bronze Age / most probably Ewart Park phase (950-750 BC). The axe is small and almost all of its original surface patina has been lost through a combination of abrasion and significant spalling erosion. The axe is of a small size having a very distinctive square shaped mouth and relatively straight sides which expand near the base of the socket to form an asymmetrical crescent shaped cutting edge. The mouth of the axe is broadly sub-rectangular in cross-section; i…

The upper surface is decorated with a central circlet with at least 4 raised bosses within. Around the external edge are a series of irregular spaced cast designs, letters or pseudo-letters. The letters seem to have been reversed so carved correctly within the mould and therefore in reverse in the final object. The letters include a backwards R and D as well as an A. The reverse has a low relief W or M formewd of two V shapes. A direct parallel has not been found…
