Mint: Bristol Ref: North 1022 This is one of a hoard of 54 coins (26 groats and 28 pennies) ranging from the reigns of Edward I to Edward IV, although most are from the reigns of Henry VI and Edward IV. The groats are generaly well preserved and unclipped, the pennies showing differing degrees of wear, the earliest pieces are particularly worn. Medalet or counter, probably of Charles II of copper alloy 0.8mm thick with a diameter of 19mm, weighing 1.15g. The object is corroded and almost completely illegible. The reverse inscription may be QVATOR [MARIA VINDICO] which means I claim the four seas. This occurs on pattern farthings of Charles II. This piece appears to be a cheap medalet voicing the same sentiment. No parallel has been found.
