Medieval annular brooch of pewter or lead-tin alloy and of 13th or 14th century date The brooch is near-complete, missing the lower part of the pin but is heavily-corroded (with a weight of 3.4g). The annular frame is sub-circular (with an external diameter of 24.8mm - 25.9mm, an internal diameter of 18.5 - 19.0mmmm) and is circular sectioned 2.4mm diameter). The encrusted corrosion has masked much of the decoration but a cast twisted, 'cable' motif is evident over one half of the frame and probably only on one face. Medieval lead/tin alloy, probably pewter annular brooch of 13th to 14th century date The cast brooch is near-complete, missing the pin but the frame is distorted and is now oval (31.0mm x 25.9mm, 2.6mm thick and weighing 2.0g). The frame is circular sectioned (1.7mm diameter) and is without a pin constriction or notch. The brooch is decorated with three triangular, or shield-shaped devices (7.3mm - 7.5mm long, 5.5mm wide and1.5mm thick) equidistantly placed and positioned on the top of the hoop. The openwork brooch frame has a sub-circular central opening (16.4mm wide and 14.8mm long) around an zoomorphic openwork frame of D-shaped section (2.4mm thick). A very small fragment of cast lead alloy, most probably from the base of a pilgrims ampulla of medieval date (AD 1200-1450). The fragment is irregular in plan and profile. It comprises a small section of the upper face and lower curved edge of the artefact. The face is decorated with curvilinear ribs whose design extends onto the external edge and represents the shell of St James - Patron Saint of Pilgrims. The opposite face is lost.
