Decorative gold mourning ring. The outer surface is engraved with a fine trellis-style pattern, inlaid in dark blue-black enamel. In place of a bezel, there is a cartouche of white enamel. The inner face of the hoop is inscribed with the text: Prepared bee to follow me in italic script. The lettering retains slight traces of dark blue-black enamel. Internal hoop diameter 18mm; maximum band width 2.2mm; band thickness 1.2mm; weight 2.5g. The ring has not undergone any cleaning or conservation. Description and identification The reported object is a cast gold finger ring with stone setting. It has an octagonal hollow bezel tapering upwards to form an oval aperture for the stone. Inside the bezel are the remains of a dark red cabochon stone, now sunken.  The band is flat, plain and slightly D-shaped in cross section. There is a small panel on each shoulder, decorated with a series of horizontal chased grooves. The band is misshapen, and the back of the bezel is plain and flat.
