Cast copper alloy chape consisting of a U-shaped socket which is connected to an incomplete perforated terminal through a waisted constriction. The front of the chape is perforated by two small rivets which would have attached it to the scabbard. Part of the back and the lower terminal of the chape are missing. Much of the original surface is lost; however, there are traces of linear ornament on the terminal of the chape. Height 39.5mm, width 22mm, thickness 6mm, weight 9.8 grams. A late medieval to post-medieval copper-alloy knife handle, probably of 16th-century date or slightly earlier. The knife is of scale-tang type, with two copper-alloy scale plates riveted to the integral iron tang. The iron blade of the knife has broken towards its start.
