Freestanding discoidal crudely cast lead, or lead alloy weight decorated with a cross motif. Diameter 23-25mm, thickness 6.5mm, weight 23 grams. Lead weights such as these could have performed a variety of functions such as unofficial weights and measures used by traders and merchants. Dating them is difficult, excavated examples range in date from the medieval period to the nineteenth century.

Lead, or lead alloy (pewter), slightly domed button with a large attachment loop. The button is decorated with a moulded quatrefoil design. Diameter 14mm, weight 5.8 grams. Although lead is a soft metal, and therefore inherently unsuitable for use as a button, the ease with which it could be moulded ad its relative cheapness led to it being used for such a purpose (Bailey 1997, 38). Study of the flash lines on this example suggest that it was cast in a three-part mould. Cast biconical decorated lead spindle whorl. Spindle whorls are difficult to date, but the location of this find in the vicinity of a Medieval site and other Medieval finds may suggest a Medieval or early Post Medieval date. The whorl is decorated with a number of raised dots near the rim of each face (11 and 13). The surface is eroded, but there is a suggestion of low radiating lines along the face through the dots. The whorl has suffered some damage to the edge.

A lead or lead alloy medieval token dating to c. 1400 - c. 1500. The obverse depicts a cross with a pellet in each angle (Powell Type 14), probably influenced by the reverse design of a medieval penny. The reverse is undecorated. It has been slightly bent out of shape. There are traces of four casting sprues near the end of each cross arm. Overall, the token measures 15.4mm in diameter and 2.4mm thick. It weighs 1.62g.

The front of the object is decorated in a stamped armorial decoration of the royal shield with traces of the legend [HONI SOIT] QUI MAL [Y PEN]SE which translates to ‘May he be shamed who thinks badly of it’.
