Copper alloy cast pin, probably Medieval, possibly of 14th or early 15th century date The pin is complete, with a slightly distorted shank (with a length of 142.4mm and a weight of 6.3g). The copper alloy head is globular or of flattened-spherical (with a diameter of 8.3mm and a height of 6.6mm). There is no applied decoration evident on the head. The shank is also of copper alloy and has a fairly consistent diameter, but narrows slightly along its length (with a diameter beneath the head of 2.5mm and 2.3mm at its midsection) before converging to the tip. The surface is poorly pr…

Copper alloy object, possibly a surgical implement of Roman date The object is fragmentary, broken or cut on one end and is slightly distorted (with a distorted length of 118.6mm and a weight of 2.4g). Approximately half of the abject is circular-sectioned (1.6mm diameter) and the other half is flattened with a subtle midrib on one face and flat on the opposite face (with a width of 2.7mm and a thickness of 1.2mm). The midrib ends before the break, where the object is slightly thicker (at 1.9mm) possibly because of cutting with a pliers or similar tool. The surface has been strip…

Decorative copper alloy terminal or handle of uncertain date, possibly post medieval The item is part of a composite object (with a length of 35.9mm and a weight of 8.4g). The object is hollow and contains remnants of a shaft, probably of wood. The mouth is now distorted and closed (with a length of 14.2mm and a compressed thickness of 4.2mm). The object then narrows before flaring out at the rounded and thickened end (with a maximum thickness of 10.6mm). The object has a corroded perforation on one side and one face has a decorative incised border, now worn. The surface is dark grey…

Medieval to post medieval copper alloy looped fitting The fitting is complete (with a length of 25.2mm, a depth of 8.0mm, a thickness of 1.5mm and a weight of 2.2g). The fitting resembles a fish shape with a sub-triangular terminal (giving the fitting a maximum width of 12.3mm) and is gently convex across its width. On the rear (near the pointed end) is an integral, circular sectioned loop (8.2mm wide, 1.8mm diameter and 6.4mm high) defining a circular aperture (4.4mm diameter). Little of the original surface survives on the fitting and no applied decoration is discernible. The s…

Copper alloy looped fitting, probably from a vessel of uncertain date. The loop is cast and is complete (with an overall length of 31.2mm and a weight of 25.2g). The loop is oval (with a height of 26.4mm and a width of 30.6mm; 13.9mm x 17.4mm internal) and is comparatively substantial with a sub-oval section (7.9mm wide and 6.7mm thick). Wear facets are now difficult to discern on the interior of the loop. The loop was attached by an integral rivet, which has been peened-over on the face. The inside end of the rivet also has a linear incised line, perpendicular to the axis of the lo…
