Tip of a Middle Bronze Age rapier or dirk with a flattish mid-section and wide slightly bevelled edges. The surface of the fragment is corroded and its edges are damaged. The break is ancient. Surviving length 71.5mm, maximum surviving width 17mm, maximum surviving thickness 2.5mm. The fragment is an example of Burgess and Gerloff's Group IV (1981, 3, 62-112). It is not possible to identify which particular type of Group IV blade this fragment is an example of because the diagnostic features high up on the blade and butt have been lost.

Crudely cast, slightly waisted, copper alloy vessel leg. Length 41mm, width 28-33mm, thickness 18mm, weight 77.4 grams. Identifying the vessel type that this leg is from is not possible. Presumably it was either a cauldron, skillet, jug or ewer. Close dating is equally difficult as the form of the legs like this did not change from the medieval period until the seventeenth century (Read 1995, 95).

Several cast copper alloy vessel fragments including the basal end of two vessel legs form different vessels but both plano-convex in section and with decorative outer longitudinal ribs; cast copper alloy rim fragments from four different wide and steep sided vessels (probably cauldrons); and a cast copper alloy rim fragment from a wide and steep sided vessel which includes an integrally cast suspension loop, the upper part of which contains a pronounced wear facet.

Freestanding discoidal crudely cast lead, or lead alloy weight decorated with a cross motif. Diameter 23-25mm, thickness 6.5mm, weight 23 grams. Lead weights such as these could have performed a variety of functions such as unofficial weights and measures used by traders and merchants. Dating them is difficult, excavated examples range in date from the medieval period to the nineteenth century.

Lead, or lead alloy (pewter), slightly domed button with a large attachment loop. The button is decorated with a moulded quatrefoil design. Diameter 14mm, weight 5.8 grams. Although lead is a soft metal, and therefore inherently unsuitable for use as a button, the ease with which it could be moulded ad its relative cheapness led to it being used for such a purpose (Bailey 1997, 38). Study of the flash lines on this example suggest that it was cast in a three-part mould. Comparable lead buttons are known from thirteenth century contexts in London (i.e. Egan 1991, 274, no.1376, fig.178)…

Cast copper alloy chape consisting of a U-shaped socket which is connected to an incomplete perforated terminal through a waisted constriction. The front of the chape is perforated by two small rivets which would have attached it to the scabbard. Part of the back and the lower terminal of the chape are missing. Much of the original surface is lost; however, there are traces of linear ornament on the terminal of the chape. Height 39.5mm, width 22mm, thickness 6mm, weight 9.8 grams.
