Late Medieval pottery handled jar neck
The sherd comprises one handle and approximately half of the rim (with an overall width of 190mm, a rim diameter of 163mm and a weight of 281.4g). The rim is out-turned from the neck and the handle joins at the level of the rim. The handle (with a length of 107.6mm) has broken across the position of its lower return and is sub-triangular section with a central ridge on its upper surface. A fragment of North Devon Gravel-tempered ware. The fragment includes part of the base of a bread platter. The fabric is oxidised on the exterior of the vessel and reduced to its interior. The coarse components include rounded/sub-rounded quartz inclusions (1mm-4mm), sandstone inclusions (up to 4.5mm) and inclusion of tiny (max 1mm) ceramic pellets. The interior of the vessel is glazed, green in colour with the exterior being unglazed.
