An incomplete copper-alloy buckle of post-medieval date (c.AD 1620 - 1680). The buckle is trapezoidal in plan and rectangular in section. It is pointed at each terminal and has a lobed knop either end of the strap bar and has a bevelled outside edge. The pin is missing. Both faces are undecorated and the object has a brown patina.  Dimensions: Length 39.1mm, Width 20.7mm, Thickness 2.5mm, Weight 4.61g.  Similar examples can be found in Whitehead's Buckles (2003, 82) No. 510-513.

The obverse is a convex dome, and there is a central circle of pitting with a diameter measuring 14.5mm. The reverse is concave and has the same pitting in the centre. It is possible that this was once a motif that has since been worn. Similar examples can be found in Forsyth & Egan, Toys, Trifles and Trinkets (2005, 267;293). The shot was discovered on a the banks of the River Goyt. A small, copper alloy prick spur dating to the post medieval period (c.AD 1700-1800). The size of the object may indicate that it was made for a child - the heel band measures only 45mm wide and 50mm long. The neck of the spur is offset from the back of the heel, and the "spur" itself is fixed, i.e. is a goad rather than a rowel. The neck and goad extend out a total of 30mm out from the heel band. An incomplete cast copper alloy toy cannon from the late 17th -18th century. The object is hollow cast and is broken between the two basal lugs and the muzzle. Toy cannons could be fired after loading the muzzle with a small quantity of black powder. Once loaded the cannon must have been fitted with some sort of slow fuse. The toy was intended for imaginative play rather than active use. The Toy cannon is Type 3, Design 1 (Forsyth, H. and Egan, G. (2005), Toys, Trifles and Trinkets. A fragment of a post medieval toy gun or petronel, dating from AD 1600-1700. The object is a hollow, broadly cylindrical lead alloy casting. In this case, the intact end has a hole by which it would have attached to the barrel of the gun. Away from this the section flattens and curves into a handle. There appears to be surface decoration on the surface, but this has been badly corroded. The object is covered with dark, rough patina. It appears similar to others in the database (e.g. LVPL-C08CB4, ESS-05B994), dating to the 17th / 18th century.

A folded lead-alloy strip of uncertain date. The strip has a rectangular section and has been folded several times along its length. Crimping marks are visible on the outside surface. The metal has a darkish patina, more metallic in places where the surface has been worn. Rolled and folded lead strips have been used as Roman curse tablets. However, compared to others in the database (e.g. YORKM-E10746, NLM-92F452) this piece is smaller and has been deliberately more tightly folded. This suggests that it is probably some kind of lead weight or ingot.

An incomplete lead alloy zoomorphic terminal in the form of a dog or wolf's head. The terminal is likely from a whistle. The animal has an elongated snout the end of which is rounded and a clenched jaw. Behind the front teeth a perforation runs through the mouth to the opposite side. The eyes, on each side of the head, are rounded pellets with ridged brows above. The ears are sub-rectangular and flattened against the side of the head. A cast copper alloy pin dating to the Roman period, (AD 43-410). The object can be classified as Cool's group 1, sub group C. It has a spherical head which measures 10.15mm in diameter. The shank is circular in cross-section and measures 3.37mm in diameter. The shank is incomplete breaking 6.21mm below the head. The shank is slightly bent but does not taper. The object has a dark brown patina and has patches of light green corrosion on the head. Cool notes pins of sub group C are found widely scattered throughout southern Britain and were used throughout the Roman period, (1990), p151.

Cast lead-alloy weight, probably a spindle whorl, dating from the medieval period, that is c. AD1200-1500. Lead weights like these are common finds, but only rarely from excavated contexts which is why date and origin are difficult to pinpoint. Decorated lead-alloy weights are very rare finds in excavations, but are often found by metal detectorists.
