A complete spur rowel dating to the medieval to post medieval period (c.AD 1300-1600). The rowel is in the form of a 7-pointed star and each projection is flattened. In the centre is a separate iron rivet which is surrounded on both faces of the rowel by heavy corrosion products. The main object has a dark green patina, and the iron corrosion is a rusted orange / brown. Similar examples are illustrated in Read (2001: 41 & 66; refs. 347, 505-507). Similar examples can be found in the database e.g. WILT-433916

A Medieval Iron axehead, dating to c.AD 1000 - 1500. Possibly a bearded axehead. It is largely trapezoidal, it has a triangular or 'wedge'- shaped blade with a slight curve to the cutting edge; it projects downwards a little more than it projects upwards from the central body of the axe. The socket is triangular in shape with a triangular wing to either side, extending downwards. This is formed by bending the loop around and welding it to the other side, often resulting in a slight ridge. When viewed from the rear, the butt of the axe appears rectangular.  Length: 190…

A cast iron Post Medieval cannon ball, probably dating to circa AD 1500 - 1700. The object is spherical in shape with pitting and corrosion visible on the surface. The cannon ball has an orange coloured patina across its surfaces. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail and full diameter and weight. The diameter and weight suggest that the type of cannon used to fire the cannon ball may have been the Demi-Culverin. This cannon had a 4 inch bore and fired a ball weighing 9.5 lb (4309 g). Gordon…
