Cast lead disc weight. Plain circular disc, slightly concave on the reverse (base), casting mark in the centre of the upper surface, also some iron staining on the obverse (possibly from an iron loop inserted into the weight - the stub of this may survive, although this is unclear). The edges are slightly bevelled, sloping inwards towards the reverse. Diameter 34.13mm, thickness uneven 5.8-7.4mm, weight 48.19g.
This may be a 1/8lb weight, slightly light under the Mercantile systems (54.6g or 58.3g; in use from before 1300), the Avoirdupois systems (53.2g (in use from pre 1280) or 56…

A cast copper-alloy circular trade weight of post-medieval date. It measures 31.3 mm in diameter. The weight has an incised circular groove c. 2.5 mm from the circumference. There is a central punch and a further incised groove approximately 7 mm from this. Resting on the border groove is a crowned Lombardic 'h'. This mark was institued by Henry VII in 1495 and lasted into the reign of Henry VIII (Biggs 1992, 48). The weight weighs 9 grams. A calculation based on 15.432 avoirdupois grains to the gram makes the coin weight 138.888 grains. Assuming 480 grains to the ounce, this weight w…

A copper alloy weight of Post-Medieval date, possibly dating from the reigns of Elizabeth I (AD 1558-1603) to George I (AD 1714-1727).
The weight is circular in plan with an incised circumferential border.
The front face is marked with a series of stamps: these include the dagger or sword of the London Guildhall, an inverted crown without an initial and the ewer (coffee pot) of the Worshipful Company of Founders. The stamps are similar to IOW-3646BE, discovered on the Isle of Wight which gives a probable dating based on similar examples in Biggs (1996).

An incomplete cast copper alloy leg, probably from a medieval or post-medieval cooking vessel. In plan, the leg tapers from the concave top to the convex base. The sides are broadly straight. In profile, the leg is broadly triangular, with one corner representing the base. The side between the other two corners of the triangular profile is slightly concave. The broken edges of this internal portion protrude slightly beyond the edges of the leg. The extant portions of vessel wall surrounding the leg are between 1.2mm and 3.0mm thick. In section, the leg is curved. A median rib run…

Elongated sub-rectangular shape which tapers towards the base when stood vertical. The section of the leg is slightly trapezoidal. The upper end face of the leg is square and is slightly wider than the rest of the leg. The edges of this upper end face are broken. The patina over these edges suggests that the item was broken in antiquity. The face itself is very smooth and is angled c. 45º to the leg. The outer vertical face of the leg is slightly curved towards the base. The foot, which is a horizontal edge is slightly worn.

A cast copper alloy cooking vessel fragment (length: 73.5mm; width: 31mm; thickness: 3.5mm; weight: 38.98g). At one end of the fragment, the vessel seems to curve outwards, possibly towards a rim? The artefact is in a fair condition with general corrosion on both sides. On the probable inner side of the vessel, the surface has a dark green patina, while the outer surface has a dark green-back patina. It is impossible to date this fragment specifically, but it is most likely to date to the Medieval or post-Medieval period.

A cast copper alloy cooking vessel foot. In plan it is a sub-square with the upper edge being broken, but not recently. In profile the foot is triangular with the sloping edge facing outwards. The obliquely angled face has been decorated with a vertical, central ridge. The base of the foot is sub-rectangular. The surface is heavily abraded, pitted, and has traces of a mottled matte mid green coloured patina. It also has patches of a heavy black deposit which is probably a sooty/carbon deposit. The leg measures 26.11mm tall, 36.64mm wide across the foot and 27.91mm thick. It weighs 71.…

A copper alloy, which appears to be heavily leaded, cooking vessel leg/foot: In plan it is a sub- rectangle with a narrow upper edge flaring outwards. The face of the upper edge is obliquely angled and whose edges are broken. This face is sub-triangular in plan and forms the interior surface of the vessel. The broken edges are not recent breaks. The lower edge of the foot is also broken and heavily abraded. The leg is circular in section. The surface is slightly abraded and has a mottled matte mid green/grey coloured patina. The leg measures 78.21mm tall, 28.89mm wide and 20.88mm thic…

Medieval to Post Medieval (c. 12th to mid 19th century) cooking vessel rim fragment which is broken but not too recently: The rim, in profile, is a very slender 'D' shape, with the convex element forming the interior wall, The fragment then tapers slightly to a blunt, broken lower edge. The only original edge of the fragment is the rim. The interior surface is slightly encrusted and has traces of a cream coloured substance adhering to the surface, perhaps lime scale. The exterior surface is also encrusted and has a large patch of a slightly rough surface. The surface is a mottled mid …

A copper alloy Medieval or Post Medieval, circa AD 1250-1600 cooking vessel leg.
The fragment is broadly trapezoidal in profile. The upper edge has a broken terminal where the leg would have once attached to the pot. The sides then flare to the lower edge which is slightly angled and flat in order for the vessel to stand. On the outer face the basal end is moulded and expands. There are three broad ribs that run longitudinally. The opposing internal face is flat and then at the lower edge that allows th epot to sit it expands slightly to form a protruding lip.
The fragment …

A Medieval or Post Medieval (12th to mid 19th century) cooking vessel leg: The foot is a 'hoof' type. In plan it is a sub-rectangle, with an obliquely angled break across the foot. This break is not recent as the patina matches the surface of the leg. The upper edge is broken and again it is not a recent break. In profile the reverse of the leg is straight and in section it is sub semi-circular. The lower portion of the front face is rounded, decorated with two, slightly radiating, wide vertical ribs on the remaining half of the foot. Above there is a transverse collar in the form of …
