A fragment of a Post Medieval clay pipe stem dating from about AD 1700 - 1900. It is made from white imported ball clay and is burnished. The stem bore measurement is 4/64". Measurements are; length 31.4mm, diameter 5.7mm and weight 1.25g.

A ceramic vessel sherd, probably from the base, of post medieval blackware dating from AD 1650-1800. The fabric is hard, fine grained and of a dark red colour. There are a few very small, white inclusions and some mica. The inside of the sherd is glazed with a thick black or very dark brown glaze and there are some splashes on the underneath face. The sherd is flat, and on the inner face is a curved bump, perhaps the remains of a raised circle in the centre of the base (similar to that seen on a saucer), though the external base is not kicked (concave) but remians flat. Three ceramic vessel sherds of probably Medieval date. The largest is a wall sherd measuring 55.44mm long, 46.34mm wide and 7.82mm thick. The fabric is hard and fine with an irregular texture. It has infrequent small quartz, red and black rounded inclusions, and one large pebble of quartz. It is light grey throughout, with a lighter slip and a pale green glaze on the outer face. A large sherd from the rim of a Roman greyware vessel, dating from the second to fourth centuries AD. The matrix is fine grained and of a light grey colour. There are very small, white inclusions, possibly grains of quartz. The sherd is 96.9mm long, 41.9mm wide and 16.3mm thick. It weighs 81.17gm.

A small body sherd probably of a Roman ceramic vessel. The sherd is 40.28mm long, 22.14mm wide, 5.96mm thick. It weighs 5.35g. The fabric is fine grained and hard. The beaks are clean and the texture is smooth. It is a dark orange red colour throughout. There are very few inclusions; some very small, white and sparkly (mica?) and some larger, rounded black particles (grog?).

A clay pipe dating to the post Medieval period. The pipe has good amount of the shaft still attached to the bowl. The bowl has convex and bulbous sides, thinning towards the open end, where there is a rough incision around the opening. Beneath the transition from shaft to bowl, there is a small knop, squared off at the base. The pipe is creamy white in colour and measures 109.3mm x 28.45mm x 10.5mm, weighing 22.03g. This type of clay pipe is dated to the 16th- early 17th century. For a similar example see Bailey's 'Detector finds 3', p.51.
