Unusual probably 14th century copper alloy buckle plate. It is decorated with massed punch marks delineating a man wearing a Phrygian cap which is similar to Roman decoration but there are no Roman parallels for this object. Again there are no clear parallels in the medieval for either the method of decoration, with the massed punch marks or the decoration on the corners. But on balance it is probably Medieval 14th century when, after all, they had their contacts with the east. The reddish discolouration suggests it may have been gilded. The length is 45mm, and the width is 22mm.
