A waste product of white metal. This melted piece of metal is thin at one end and rounded towards the other. The material appears to be too light to be lead unless the piece is hollow. The pitted surface and irregular shape suggest that the piece is not deliberately formed and is probably the result of metal working.

A lead-alloy spindle whorl, decorated on both sides. The whorl is plano-convex with a circular central hole, but is damaged on both faces. The decoration on one side is raised radial ribs dividing the whorl into eight sections, with a large raised pellet in alternate spaces. On the other side, the raised ribs form a square with a St. Andrew’s cross inside it, running from corner to corner of the square. There is also a central raised rib sub dividing two opposing triangles formed by the square and the cross, and central pellets in the other two triangles. It is 32.3mm in diameter and…

A rounded and irregularly shaped lump of copper-alloy, probably casting waste or a melted object. The piece is sub rectangular with a rounded end and is a rounded triangle in section. At one end, a small fragment of thin metal projects and is snapped off, revealing a small hollow or bubble inside the metal. It is undecorated and has a dark green patina. The patina is similar to Roman finds from this area, but there is insufficient evidence to suggest a date. It is 37.1mm long, 17.3mm wide, and 14.5mm thick. It weighs 26.89gm.

Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete cast lead weight, possible spindle whorl of uncertain date. The weight is circular in plan and domed in profile with a perforation in the centre. There is no decoration. The perforation is 2.5mm in diameter and appears to have been drilled from either side giving an hour glass profile to the sides of the perforation making it less likely that this has been used as a spindle whorl. Simple, undecorated lead weights of this type are notoriously difficult to date and therefore the date is given as uncertain.

A complete cast lead weight of uncertain date. The weight is circular in plan with a large circular perforation off-centre. There is no decoration. The perforation is 7.5mm in diameter. It is difficult to assign specific uses to such simple weights and although it could have been used as a loom weight it may have served many other uses. Simple, undecorated lead weights of this type are notoriously difficult to date and therefore the date is given as uncertain.

A copper alloy unidentified object of uncertain date. The object has a rectangular sectioned 'tang' at one end, and opens out into a sub rectangular wider and thinner area at the other. It is not clear whether the end is original or a break, but is possibly has slight teeth or a patterned edge, like a pastry jigger. The wider area is slightly convex and curved, making the reverse slightly hollow. There is a slight step between the 'tang' and the 'paddle' like area. The end of the square sectioned part is an old break. This object has some similarities with Roman styli, but the square …

Complete copper alloy cast disc or token of uncertain date. The reverse is plain and the obverse carries a design in high relief. The disc is rather chunky and larger and thicker overall than a typical lead token. The design is possibly a tree although being basically tripartite in design the image of a tree may be incidental. No parallel was found for this object and although it was initially considered as a possible Iron Age potin this is unlikely and a more likely date, based on design is Post Medieval.
