A lead alloy or pewter flanged dish of probable late Roman date. Description The dish is fragmented but is nearly a complete vessel. The plate has a circular base with a short wall which runs vertical from the base at an angle of approximately 80 degrees. The rim is horizontal, flat, and is turned downwards and folded onto the underside thus forming a shallow facet around the perimeter. The form of rim suggests this belongs to Peal type 4b (Peal 1967). The central part of the base is made from a circular sheet of lead alloy. This was either soldered to the rest of…

Lead alloy possible vessel fragment. Cast rim fragment from a small vessel with a flat-topped square rim which overhangs the wall slightly; fiercely abraded with an incised circumferential line below the rim on the outer side. A complete lead alloy vessel repair or pot mend of Roman to medieval date, c. AD 43-1500. The object is composed of an outer sub-ovate disc on one side of the vessel wall, and a second sub-circular plate on the other. These pieces would have overlapped the broken edges of the vessel on either side of the break, one inside the vessel, the other on the outside, forming a seal. Part of the original pot is still sandwiched between the lead alloy sections. The metal's surface has a powdery pale cream-coloured patina. Length: 32.7 mm, width: 17.8 mm, thickn…

An incomplete post medieval cast, copper alloy vessel leg, potentially from a cauldron or posset (c. AD 1600 - 1700). The front surface is slightly curved whilst the back of the object is relatively flat. There is a single central rib running down the front of the leg. The leg has an overall triangular cross-section and turns out at the bottom to form a simple foot. No collar separates the foot and leg. FRG datasheet 41 suggests a 17th century date for this form (fig 4a). The object has a pale green patina with dark green patches.  Width 39 mm, heigh…
