A gilded copper alloy disc brooch of possible Scandinavian origin dating to the period c.AD850 - 950. The front exhibits cast Borre-style decoration consisting of three figures that are shown as a prone animal that stretch from one side of the disc to the other, crossing each other at the midpoint where that is a recessed disc that would have mounded a stone or enamel, this disc bisects the animals where the three would meet and leaves the torso and hind legs in one half, then head and arm in the other.  Each animal comprises of L-shaped legs that have expanded thighs; the lower…

Copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill dating AD 75-200. It has rearward facing lugs on either end of the wings that hold the pin axes bar, most of the pin is retained but is now heavily corroded. The head of the bow has a tapering triangular panel with expanded shoulders. In the centre of the head are two raised lines that converge at the apex of the bow forming a V-shaped crest with a third raised line in the centre that has a loop at the top for the external cord. The lower part of the bow is truncated resulting in the loss of the catchplate.

A copper-alloy and enamelled Iron Age stud (150 BC - AD 43). The object is circular in plan and semicircular when viewed in profile. The sides are decorated with four deep-set cells that are filled with red enamel; each cell is separated from its neighbour by a zigzag border that is joined to the roundel at the apex of the semicircle, this is pierced in the centre to accommodate a pin.  The opposite side forms the circular face and is also recessed and filled with red enamel, a hole in the centre of the enamel shows where the attachment pin would have been mounted. Copper alloy Aucissa brooch that has rolled tubular wings that would have held the pin axis bar, there is a slot in the rear for the pin, which is now missing. The bow is a sup-rectangular strip gradually narrows to the bottom. The face is decorated with two narrow grooves that run down either side and a double groove that runs down the centre. The lower part of the bow has been truncated.

A heavily corroded copper alloy book clasp. This example is rectangular in plan with two copper alloy rivets retained at the rear. The forward edge has a narrowed tab that has been bent around to form a hook. The face is decorated with two concentric rings towards the rear.     Artefacts such as this have been discovered during excavation in York which dated to the 15th and 16th centuries (Ottaway & Rogers, 2002, 2937-2939)

A copper alloy Roman developed T-shaped brooch. Tubular wings hold the pin axis bar, there is a slot in the centre of the wings at the rear for the pin which only the loop remains.  The head of the bow has a tapering triangular panel with expanded shoulders. Above is a raised triangular panel with two radiating grooves sits at the top of the head with a triangular cell surrounded by a raised border at the bows apex.  Below the lower half of the bow is truncated.

A Roman copper-alloy devolved Large south-western T-shaped brooch of Hull T138 dating to the late first to second century AD, incomplete in so far as it is missing the pin and part of the headloop. The head has two short cylindrical wings, 33.9mm wide, to hold the axis bar for the hinged pin. Between the wings is a slot in which the pin would have sat. An incomplete copper-alloy crossbow brooch of Roman date, c.AD 200-300. The brooch has tubular crossbar wings with closed ends, although both ends are fragmented. The reverse of the wings have a central slot allowing a pin to be looped around the bar.
