Mid grey opaque flint scraper. A small thick crescentic flake with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at one end of its ventral surface. Short scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved edge. A misty patina over all surfaces may suggest the object was subsequently exposed to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 17.6mm, Width: 28.4mm, Thickness: 5.9mm, Weight: 3.37gms

Flint possible scraper. A small chunk with a flat flake struck from its dorsal side and a bulbar ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect may follow a curving edge, though if so, it has been battered. A dense patina overall suggests the object has endured exposure to a calcareous environment. As the find-spot is not on chalk it may have been imported, perhaps with marl or building materials. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC Length: 27.5mm, Width: 33.2mm, Thickness: 12.3mm, Weight: 10.99gms

Flint possible scraper. A small thick sub-rectangular chunk with narrow flakes removed from its rounded dorsal surface and with a concave hollow on its ventral surface which would serve as a thumb rest; one side is flat. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one short straight edge, here taken to have been the working edge. A creamy patina across all struck surfaces suggests the object has subsequently endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. As the find-spot is not on chalk the patina may hint that it has been imported. Suggested date: Early Neo…

Pale grey flint scraper. A thin oval pebble with a broad flake or flakes struck from its dorsal side and an undulating ventral surface with a bulb at one end. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved end. Possibly broken at the butt in antiquity. Dense white patina suggests the object has endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Dark brown flint nodule with cortex, scraper. A round flint pebble or nodule of high quality, with invasive angled scalar retouch which has removed eight large long and mostly parallel flakes in an episode of skilled and perfunctory working from a single direction. The cutting edge produced has seen some use as evidenced by its light battering. The rapid removal of larger flakes might usually suggest a late date; however, the selection of this material, which is imported to the area, might rather point to an earlier date and to its economical rather than haphazard working. The notable …

Dark grey flint with cortex, possible scraper. A small chunk with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side which has subsequently collected a dense creamy patina suggesting its prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment. The ventral surface is fresh, suggesting a pebble which had already been patinated was reworked and this part was detached, leaving a bulbar ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect may have removed some patina to form a thumbnail scraper, though the continuation of this loss of patina from round the edge could alternatively have arise…

Flint with ?re-formed cortex, scraper. A small trapezoid chip with a broad flake or flakes struck from its dorsal side leaving a patch of cortex on one side, and with a flat ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect forms a notch or hollow on one long side; the retention of cortex on the opposite long edge may have permitted pressure to be brought to bear on the putative working edge. A dense white patina across all struck surfaces suggests they have subsequently endured exposure to a calcareous environment. Were this environment not to occur locally, i…
