A medieval silver annular brooch which is complete and with the pin intact. Traces of gilding evident on the brooch. The frame is circular in plan and in section. It is decorated with four evenly spaced globular collars, each of which is punched with small circular marks. The pin is cast and is circular in cross section, tapering to a point at the end. Early Medieval curved rectangular copper alloy buckle plate. The buckle plate has traces of gilding on the geometric pattern on the front of the plate. The design consists of two borders of wrigglework one inside the other edged with plain lines. The two tabs that looped round the now missing buckle and pin have a line of wriggle work across them also. Four rivet holes in the front of the plate, two of which appear to retain the rivets. The pendant is cruciform in plan with four swelling projections from a central square, which in turn extend into narrow arms terminating in faceted rectangles. One of the projections serves as a suspension loop, extending upwards from the top of the pendant; it is pierced horizontally, though iron survives in the hole. Signs of gilding remain. Part of a cast copper alloy leg from a Medieval to Post Medieval vessel. The leg has a sub-rectangular cross section with convex rounded edges and a flat front and back. At the top and bottom are old breaks. The front of the leg has a raised central rib running down the length.
This appears to be an example of Butler, Green and Payne (2009: 4) Type 'a'. This type was widespread in the Medieval period with examples also found into the early 17th century. SOM-D66AA0 on this database is similar.

A rim fragment from a late Medieval or Post Medieval cast copper alloy vessel. The rim is slightly thickened with a D shaped swelling on the outer side and would have flared out from the body of the vessel. The internal surface is smooth but the external surface is slightly rough from being casting and has extensive soot deposits.
Crudely made cast copper alloy vessels were widely used from c. AD 1200-1700 for serving and cooking (Butler and Green 2003; 7,15, 22).

Medieval to Post Medieval cast lead circular unifaced token (1250-1650 AD). The token has a design of severn randomly spaced raised pellets on the obverse and a flat, undecorated reverse. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally; they are therefore hard to date precisely.

A copper-alloy Colchester derivative brooch of Roman (probably mid to late 1st century) date.
The wings are short and have a flat underside. At the centre is a pierced lug, into which the now-missing axis bar would have fitted. Directly above the top of the wings is a second perforation, which contains a portion of the external chord. The humped bow is of flattened-oval section, the width and thickness gradually decreasing towards the bottom, where it has been broken in antiquity The brooch measures 28.4mm long, 13.2mm wide and weighs 3.16g.

The wings are tubular, the damaged underside revealing five coils of the spring. The bow forms a right-angle with the back of the head, the parallel-sided strip extending to the damaged foot. The bow's upper surface bears to parallel grooves on its upper surface. On the underside of the foot is the remnant of a catchplate. The artefact is bent and heavily corroded. It measures 29.6mm long, 13.7mm wide (wings) and weighs 3.43g.

The frame is sub-oval in plan and sides are of circular section, narrowing at the pin constriction. The pin has been looped around this constriction. It is of trapezoidal section, the long sides gradually converging towards a point, the recessed underside of which rests on the top of the frame. The bow is sub-oval and has two internal projections at the stem end. The area of the stem immediately adjacent to the bow has four vertical moulded ridges. The stem is of oval section and tapers to a point at the bit end. The bit is set a short distance in from the end and has no wards or clefts. The bow is oval, roughly formed and has flattened surfaces. The stem is of flattened-oval section, widening towards the hollow tip. The bit, set at the base of the stem, takes the form of a capital letter 'I' with poorly formed clefts. The key measures 37.1mm long, 14.7mm wide and 4.5m thick. The weight is 5.27g.
Several examples of casket keys were found in excavations in Winchester (see Biddle 1990: 1024-1036), in layers dating from the 12th to 14th centuries.

A fragment of a copper-alloy Late Roman bracelet (cf. Crummy 1983: 40, no. 1651).
The artefact is formed of a thin, narrow strip which is parallel-sided along much of its length, the sides converging towards the terminal, where there is an outward curving hook attachment. There is no trace of decoration on the slightly convex outer surface. The bracelet is bent at one point. It measures 28.1mm wide, 39.1mm deep (from hooked terminal to back of hoop) and 3.4mm high (height of band). The weight is 2.09g.

A very small complete single loop buckle. The inner frame has a raised ridge running round the curve but encrustation on the buckle has obscured any decoration there may have been. A similar raised flange can be seen on a larger, 1450-1550 example in Whitehead [p25 no 123] The pin consists of a rather thick lenght of metal folded round the bar. Because of the size of the pin there is little room on the bar for the strap/belt. No exact parallel has been found for this buckle but it is considered to be medieval.

The front face is convex and consists of two opposing ovoid lobes separated by a moulding with three transverse ribs. The reverse is flat and at each of the longitudinal ends is a single curved spike. The mount is in fair condition and the metal is a mottled greyish-green colour. A similar mount has been published by Brian Read (2001, 36, fig. 21, ref. 310). He dates this published mount to the 17th century.

An incomplete frame from a Medieval single-loop buckle.
The frame would originally have been roughly 'D-shaped', but has lost its axis bar and part of one horizontal side. The intact horizontal side is bowed and of thin section. The vertical outer side is expanded, with two angled knops (grooved on one side) enclosing a pin rest of multiple transverse grooves and ridges. The piece measures 14.3mm long, 25mm wide and 3.9mm thick. The weight is 2.77g.
Research carried out on buckles from Meols, Cheshire suggests that this form of frame dates from the mid 13th to 14…

A copper-alloy single-loop buckle of Medieval (13th to 14th century) date.
The frame is 'D-shaped', the upper surfaces sloping downwards and outwards, the width expanding towards the centre. Wrapped around the offset axis bar is a rectangular plate, the upper part being longer and wider than the lower. Extending around the perimeter of the upper plate is a zig-zag line border. A copper-alloy strap-slide of Medieval date. The artefact consists of a trapezoidal frame with two opposing internal projections at the narrower end. The vertical outer side has a central moulding flanked by two transverse ridges and is slightly damaged at one end. The other three sides have flat, plain surfaces. The piece measures 20.2mm long, 29.8mm wide and 3.6mm thick. The weight is 3.31g.

The symmetrical frame has two 'D-shaped' sides, the upper surfaces sloping downwards and outwards, the width expanding towards the centre of each side, where there is a transverse groove pin rest. The central axis bar is of circular section and has a protruding knop at each end. The pin, looped around the axis bar, has flat surfaces and tapers to a point. The buckle measures 23mm long, 17.9mm wide and 3.9mm thick. The weight is 3.02g.

A copper-alloy double-oval buckle of early post-Medieval date.
The symmetrical frame has two 'D-shaped' sides. At the centre of each outer side is a protruding pin rest consisting of a three-lobed projection between two near vertical 'arms'. A similar moulding is also located at each end of the axis bar, looped around which is a remnant of the pin. The buckle is damaged and corroded. It measures 56.1mm long, 25.7mm wide and 3.2mm thick. It weighs 6.75g.

A copper-alloy hooked tag of early post-Medieval date.
The plate is circular in plan and of openwork design. The central element consists of a cross with a pellet at the centre; in each surrounding quarter is a triangular arrangement of four circular holes. The perimeter consists of a beaded line. The hanger, which extends upwards from the top of the plate, is rectangular and has become broken at one point. The backward-facing hook is of semi-circular section and is bent and incomplete. The object measures 31.5mm long, 16.7mm wide and 1.9mm thick. The weight is 2.08g.

A copper-alloy stirrup strap-mount of probable late Early-Medieval date.
The object has a horizontal bottom side and tapers towards a rounded point. The long sides are not flat, but have several protruding curves and pointed knops reflecting the nature of the decoration on the upper surface. This decoration is formed of lightly engraved lines, the main element being a pelta with an arm extending upwards from its centre and splaying into two pointed 'wings'. The vertical sides of the rectangular hanger extend downards, forming the sides of an openwork plate, where there are two moulded foliate ornaments above a horizontal ridge. Below this ridge the sides angle inwards, enclosing a second band of foliate openwork. The hook is missing. The artefact measures 19mm long, 14.8mm wide and 2.5mm thick. The weight is 1.57g.

The pendant takes the form of a sub-rectangular domed plate with grooves radiating outwards from the central area. Located off-centre is a circular hole, to which would have been attached a further, now-missing element. The hanger extends upwards at 90 degrees from the centre of the top side. It has a small circular aperture. The upper surface of the hanger bears traces of silvering, while the surface of the plate is gilt. The object measures 25.8mm long, 11.9mm wide and 5.5mm thick. A copper-alloy horse harness pendant suspension mount with an attached remnant of the pendant itself. This artefact probably dates from the 13th or 14th century.
The suspension mount consists of a vertical bar of semi-circular section. At the top, separated from the bar by two narrow transverse ridges, is a tri-lobate terminal containing a circular rivet hole.
