A copper alloy unidentified object of unknown date. The object is cylindrical but solid, at one end there are four triangular projections, two of which have rounded knops on the terminal end. Inside the projections is hollow, with traces of corrosion. In the body of one of the projections is a circular indentation, possibly a ring and dot decoration. A complete copper alloy Roman horse gear fitting, dating from c. 120 to 250/300 AD. The fitting is square in shape, with a raised line running across the centre. Either side of this the fitting curves, making the two sections D shaped in cross section. The reverse of the fitting is hollow and concave, in the centre is an intergral attachment lug which narrows to a rounded blunt point. The fitting has a mid green patina and measures 19.7mm in length, 18.0mm in width, 9.6mm in maximum thickness and weighs 4.22g. Nicolay 2007, page 384, Pl 73, number 142.1.

A complete but worn horse gear fitting, dating from c. 120 to 250/300 AD. The fitting is formed of three rounded sections, between each section is a raised and moulded collar. On the reverse are two intergral attachment lugs, these are worn. One is broken and one narrows to a sharp point. The lugs project out from inbetween the central section and the two outside sections. The three rounded sections are slightly concave on the reverse. The fitting has a shiny dark brown patina, and measures 33.3mm in length, 9.0mm in width, 2.4mm in thickness and weighs 3.34g. The object comprises a fragment of the central boss, with a central circular raised border surrounding a smaller central knop. The recessed area between has the remains of enamel set within. The back of the piece is concave. The edges of the piece are all broken, the breaks are worn and old.
