A rim sherd from a Roman colour-coated ware vessel (either a dish or a beaker), probably produced at the Nene Valley kilns, between the mid 2nd and 4th centuries AD. The rim is on plain form, with a simple rolled top and no projection on either side. The fabric is light grey to off-white. The slip on the inner surface is mid brown, changing to black on the outer surface. Dimensions: 41.2mm long, 31.1mm high, 8.9mm thick. Weight: 12.75g.

A rim sherd from a Roman flanged bowl. This vessel probably dates from the 3rd or 4th century AD and is of Hadham colour-coated ware, its form imitating the Dr 38 form of samian bowl. The flange curves downwards from the outer wall of the vessel, with part of the damaged rim projecting above. The core is light grey; the surface is mid-orange and has displays abundant mica inclusions. The inner surface of the bowl and upper surface of the flange retain traces of an orange slip, whereas the outer surface of the vessel has been coated with a brown slip. A base sherd from a 1st or 2nd century Roman ceramic vessel, possibly a flagon. The abraded sherd represents less than half of the original base. The fabric is mid orange and both the inner and outer surfaces retain traces of a white slip. A deep groove extends around the underside of the base, a short distance in from the edge. Dimensions: 34.6mm long, 29mm wide, 11.3mm high. Weight: 7.41g.

The fabic has a dark grey core, orange surface and has been slipped in a patchy orange and brown, with an overlying wavy line of white slip on the inner surface of the rim. A post-Medieval stoneware Bellarmine jug (also known as a Beardman/Bartmaan jug). The body of the vessel is sub-globular, with a flat base and conical neck (damaged). A speckled brown glaze covers most of the surface of the vessel, running into the lower quarter, which is off-white. The typical moulded human mask is situated at the junction of neck and body; it has a ladder-like mouth, 'flower pad' moustache and corded beard. A pottery strap handle from a medieval jug. The handle adjoins part of the vertical neck of the vessel, a short distance down from the beaded rim. Two vertical ridges decorate upper surface of the handle. Each of the two outer panels created by these ridges is decorated by a column of sub-oval stab marks, whereas the central panel has a column of diagonal impressions, probably made by the tip of a knife. Three adjoining body sherds from a pottery plate or dish, probably dating from the Roman period. The flat upper surface of the vessel is decorated by combed wavy lines, and there is a group of stab marks towards the centre. In addition, there are three concentric grooves near to the edge of the vessel. The fabric is a light pinkish-orange with no visible inclusions. The edges of the sherds are slightly abraded.

A slightly abraded body sherd from an Iron Age upright vessel. The sub-rectangular sherd has a dark grey core with small stone inclusions; the surfaces are light pinkish-brown, there is sooting on the inner face and lines of impressed cord decoration on the outer face. The fineness of the vessel, and rilling on the inside, suggest this pot may have been thrown or finished on a wheel.

Five sherds of handmade pottery vessels, probably dating from the Iron Age. The largest sherd, which is part of a storage jar or cooking pot, is sub-rectangular in plan, has vertical sides and a beaded rim. The fabric of this sherd is dark grey, slightly vesiculated and has finger impressions on the outer surface. The four other sherds are smaller, more highly abraded and are made from mid-grey fabrics with frequent small inclusions. nb.Dimensions quoted below are for the largest sherd in the group.

R Hobbs reports: There are also a large number of fragments of other similar coarseware vessels in a range of fabrics, as well as tile, brick and fragments of mortaria. Only the pieces stained with copper can be directly associated with the coin hoard and considered as treasure.

Report by R Hobbs: Around 15 fragments of a squat coarseware storage jar with green copper alloy staining on the inner surface where the pot has been in direct contact with the coins. The fabric (pink grog tempered ware) is dull pink with a heavy grey core and ill sorted inclusions of grog and mica (Tomber and Dore 1998, 210).

Discussion by P T Marney in Zeepvat 1994, pp.3-4: Of a local sand-tempered fabric. The three "vessels are thought to be poor imitations of the BBI miniature cooking pot"…they "are not latticed, and have sagging bases".
