A shell-tempered rim fragment from a storage jar of Iron Age to Early Roman date.  The fragment is broadly rectangular in shape and tear-drop in profile with a rounded everted rim. Abundant angular calcareous inclusions <7mm amongst grey reduced fabric on exterior and break, and oxidised light brown on interior surface and part of exterior. The fragment measures 90.4mm long, 57.5mm wide, 23.9mm thick and weighs 130.16 grams.

Two sherds of Roman samian ware vessel, dating from the 2nd Century AD. 1- A rim sherd. The sherd in an irregular pentagon shape, and has a slight curve in profile. The fragment is hard, with a pink orange core, the exterior is a glossy red colour created with the slip coating. The exterior is decorated with moulded relief which starts near the worn break of the fragment. A post-Medieval stoneware Bellarmine jug (also known as a Beardman/Bartmaan jug). The body of the vessel is sub-globular, with a flat base and conical neck (damaged). A speckled brown glaze covers most of the surface of the vessel, running into the lower quarter, which is off-white. The typical moulded human mask is situated at the junction of neck and body; it has a ladder-like mouth, 'flower pad' moustache and corded beard. Report by R Hobbs: Around 15 fragments of a squat coarseware storage jar with green copper alloy staining on the inner surface where the pot has been in direct contact with the coins. The fabric (pink grog tempered ware) is dull pink with a heavy grey core and ill sorted inclusions of grog and mica (Tomber and Dore 1998, 210).

R Hobbs reports: There are also a large number of fragments of other similar coarseware vessels in a range of fabrics, as well as tile, brick and fragments of mortaria. Only the pieces stained with copper can be directly associated with the coin hoard and considered as treasure.
