A neck of a Roman Nene Valley ware flagon. The fabric is white in colour with a reddish brown slip. The rim flange of the narrow mouth is cylindrical and the neck below is further constricted before flaring outwards again. Throwing lines are visible on the outer surface of the mouth.

A rim sherd from a Roman dish of South Midlands shell-tempered ware. This pottery was probably produced at Harrold, Bedfordshire and dates from the 3rd to early 5th century AD.
The rim itself has a flattened upper surface and has an angled outer face, at the base of which is a shallow groove. The wall of the vessel would have angled upwards at approximately 60 degrees from the now-missing base. The fabric is pinkish-orange to dark grey and has a moderate amount of small crushed shell temper. The edges of the sherd are relatively unabraded.

A base sherd from a Roman Nene Valley colour-coated ware vessel, dating from the mid 2nd to 4th century AD.
Just over half of the circular base remains. The pot has been wheel-thrown and has a pronounced groove on the underside, a short distance in from the edge. The fabric is light yellowish-orange and has no visible inclusions. A brown slip coats the inner surface, whereas that on the outer surface is dark grey and has been applied unevenly.

A rim sherd from a Roman colour-coated ware vessel (either a dish or a beaker), probably produced at the Nene Valley kilns, between the mid 2nd and 4th centuries AD.
The rim is on plain form, with a simple rolled top and no projection on either side. The fabric is light grey to off-white. The slip on the inner surface is mid brown, changing to black on the outer surface.

A rim sherd from a Roman flanged bowl. This vessel probably dates from the 3rd or 4th century AD and is of Hadham colour-coated ware, its form imitating the Dr 38 form of samian bowl.
The flange curves downwards from the outer wall of the vessel, with part of the damaged rim projecting above. The core is light grey; the surface is mid-orange and has displays abundant mica inclusions. The inner surface of the bowl and upper surface of the flange retain traces of an orange slip, whereas the outer surface of the vessel has been coated with a brown slip.

The abraded sherd represents less than half of the original base. The fabric is mid orange and both the inner and outer surfaces retain traces of a white slip. A deep groove extends around the underside of the base, a short distance in from the edge.

Between a third and a quarter of the rim survives. It is of simple form, being straight-sided, with no lip. At the base is part of a raised moulding. The core is dark grey, the surface light grey and the fabric has a sandy texture.

The everted rim rolls outwards from the wall of the vessel, with a slight groove at the point of the transition. The fabic has a dark grey core, orange surface and has been slipped in a patchy orange and brown, with an overlying wavy line of white slip on the inner surface of the rim.

A post-Medieval stoneware Bellarmine jug (also known as a Beardman/Bartmaan jug).
The body of the vessel is sub-globular, with a flat base and conical neck (damaged). A speckled brown glaze covers most of the surface of the vessel, running into the lower quarter, which is off-white. The typical moulded human mask is situated at the junction of neck and body; it has a ladder-like mouth, 'flower pad' moustache and corded beard. Below this, occupying the centre of the body, are the arms of Amsterdam. A stub of the handle base is visible on the reverse, located at the top of the body. …

A pottery strap handle from a medieval jug.
The handle adjoins part of the vertical neck of the vessel, a short distance down from the beaded rim. Two vertical ridges decorate upper surface of the handle. Each of the two outer panels created by these ridges is decorated by a column of sub-oval stab marks, whereas the central panel has a column of diagonal impressions, probably made by the tip of a knife. Examination of the unabraded break at the base of the handle reveals a grey core, and the surfaces of the pot are light pinkish-orange.

Three adjoining body sherds from a pottery plate or dish, probably dating from the Roman period.
The flat upper surface of the vessel is decorated by combed wavy lines, and there is a group of stab marks towards the centre. In addition, there are three concentric grooves near to the edge of the vessel. The fabric is a light pinkish-orange with no visible inclusions. The edges of the sherds are slightly abraded.

A slightly abraded body sherd from an Iron Age upright vessel.
The sub-rectangular sherd has a dark grey core with small stone inclusions; the surfaces are light pinkish-brown, there is sooting on the inner face and lines of impressed cord decoration on the outer face. The fineness of the vessel, and rilling on the inside, suggest this pot may have been thrown or finished on a wheel.

Five sherds of handmade pottery vessels, probably dating from the Iron Age.
The largest sherd, which is part of a storage jar or cooking pot, is sub-rectangular in plan, has vertical sides and a beaded rim. The fabric of this sherd is dark grey, slightly vesiculated and has finger impressions on the outer surface. The four other sherds are smaller, more highly abraded and are made from mid-grey fabrics with frequent small inclusions.

R Hobbs reports: There are also a large number of fragments of other similar coarseware vessels in a range of fabrics, as well as tile, brick and fragments of mortaria. Only the pieces stained with copper can be directly associated with the coin hoard and considered as treasure.
