A complete pair of cast copper-alloy tweezers dating to the Early-Medieval period (c.AD.410-900). The tweezers are formed of a single piece of metal, which has been bent over to form two arms that are sub-triangular shaped in plan and rectangular in cross-section. At the apex of the object, the arms thicken and tapers in to form a small loop, from the apex the arms expand outwards before curling inwards at a sub-90° angle to form the blades.
A single incised line circumvents the edge of tweezers and a motif of punched ring and dots decorates the exterior faces of the arms. Th…

A complete pair of copper-alloy tweezers possibly Roman in date, AD 43-410, however a medieval date cannot be ruled out. The tweezers are made from a single sheet of copper alloy which has been folded over on itself at a defined loop to form a sprung end. The two ends of the tweezers fold inwards slightly. The tweezers are rectangular in cross section. There is no decoration. The tweezers have a red brown patina. The tweezers are 33.8mm in length, 5.6mm in width, 1.2mm in thickness and weigh 1.54g.
The tweezers can be compared with some illustrated in Eckardt and Crummy 2008, pages…

An incomplete pair of copper alloy Roman tweezers, dating to c. AD 43 - 410. Only half of the object remains, and consists of one blade. The blade is slightly flared, and triangular shaped, widening towards the terminal end. The terminal edge is bent inwards, at the opposite narrower end the spring loop is missing and there is a worn break. The blade is probably decorated and there are the remains of incised lines running down. The tweezers have a dark green patina, and measure 32.7mm in length, 4.6mm in maximum width, 0.8mm in thickness and weigh 0.80g.

A complete pair of copper alloy tweezers of Early-Medieval date (AD 410-800). The object is composed of a single folded strip of copper alloy with outward tapering triangular terminals with a slight inward curve. The object is decorated with a repeating punched pellet/ incised linear boarder which respects the limits of the object. Both faces have two sets of two, incised, transverse lines situated at the top and middle of each face. Copper-alloy slide tweezers of medieval date, formed from a single strip of copper-alloy that has a rectangular cross-section. The strip has been bent in half to form a suspension loop at the closed end. The sub-circular gap created by the loop has a diameter of 3.15mm. The sheet has a thickness of 1.25mm at the apex of the loop and is 3.86mm wide at this closed end. The arms have a width of 3.75mm just below the loop and continue to the terminal ends with straight sides. The arms widen slightly to a maximum width of 4.49mm at the tips. No obvious nips are present however the tips of …

One blade of a set of single-strip copper-alloy tweezers, dating to the Roman period. The tweezers have broken at the crimped apex of the folded strip and the remaining arm has been subsequently bent in situ. The tweezer blade is narrow near the original bend and splays downwards towards the squared-off pincer end, which is fairly corroded. The only decoration consists of a marginal groove following the long edges of the tweezer blade on the exterior surface. A close parallel can be found in Crummy 1983, Fig. 63, No. 1883, p59. A set of copper-alloy tweezers. The tweezers have been fashioned from a thin strip of copper-alloy that has been folded over. They measure 46 mm in length and are 6 mm wide at the ends, tapering to 5 mm wide at the point where they are folded. The ends of the tweezers curve in to form pincers. The tweezers have very thin incisions running vertically up them, forming a border effect. The tweezers have been slightly bent, presumably during the post-depositional process. It is hard to say with any certainty what period these tweezers might date to.
