A cast copper-alloy piece, probably representing a handle from the hinged lid of a post-Medieval tankard. The base, which would have been attached to the lid, is broadly horizontal, with a slight upward curvature. At its front end this base extends into a loop which curves backwards before terminating in a moulded, acorn-shaped finial.The V-shaped cleft between the acorn and the base of the object has been filled with metal. Measurements: 23.7mm long, 13.4mm wide, 6.5mm thick, 7.14g.

A fragment from a drinking vessel (tankard) of postmedieval date (1550-1650 AD). The fragment is a terminal from the upper section of a two-part handle. This section would have been attached to the tankard's lid by means of a pin, allowing it to be opened and closed. The preserved fragment is a deep green colour, with an even patina that covers all surfaces. It measures 22mm long, 21mm wide at its widest point, and is 21mm deep.
