A complete copper alloy Roman votive axe dating to AD 43-410. The object is a cast votive axe, with a integrally cast haft. The axe blade is trapezoidal in shape, widening slightly towards the cutting edge. The blade narrows slightly in cross section towards the cutting edge. The haft projects out from the top of the axe, and the opposite edge to form the haft proper. Just below the underside of the blade the haft has a narrowed notch. There is no decoration on the axe, which has a mid green patina. It measures 35.2mm in length, 24.8mm in width, 1.1mm in thickness and weighs 2.30g. …

A complete, copper alloy, Roman, votive axe, AD.43-450. The object is a cast votive axe, with a slight downward curving blade and integrally cast haft. The axe blade is subrectangular in shape with a slight downward curve towards the cutting edge. Close to the butt of the axe on the top is a rectangular projection forming the top of the haft, this continues on the underside to form the haft proper. A small cast copper alloy socketed axe head. probably a votive object of Roman date. The axe is wedge shaped with a small loop at one edge. There is an indent at the wider end, suggesting the socket. There is a dark green patina. Similar objects have been recorded on this database at: SF-631D32 and BUC-1FDE42
