An incomplete copper-alloy Hooked Tag of Early-Medieval date (AD 800-900). Read Class E Type 1. The tag has a flat circular plate with a bi-lobed top and opposing, tapering hook. The lobes at the top have central circular attachment holes. At the tapered base of the plate forms a rectangular spur, which terminates in an abraded break, resulting in the loss of the hooked aspect. The front of the plate is decorated with an outer circular border with repeating lines, radiating from the border, leaving a space in the centre of the plate. The back of the object is undecorated. …

A complete silver hooked tag. The hooked tag has a triangular plate with a tri-lobed rear edge, comprising two large rounded lobes with a small triangular lobe in between. The two larger lobes are each pierced with a circular perforation. At the opposite end is a sharply-curved hook with a thickened collar, incised with parallel lines. An incised double line border runs around the edge of the plate and inside the circular perforations, forming an inward-pointing chevron at the hook end. The surface is slightly worn. The back is plain with some scratching.

An incomplete copper alloy dress hook or hooked tag dating to the early post medieval period, Class E, type 3 dating from 1500-1550. The main body of the hooked tag is oval shaped and convex. An incomplete copper-alloy hooked tag, probably dating from the early post-Medieval period. The head of the tag consists of a lozenge-shaped plate with moulded decoration on the upper surface. At the centre of the plate is a six-petalled flower head, and this is surrounded by a field containing three parallel bands of moulded pellets. A copper-alloy hooked tag of late medieval or early post-medieval date. The loop is made from a straight bar with two moulded pellets at the points where it adjoins the openwork plate. The plate takes the form of a three-looped openwork knot, the right hand one being incomplete, and the lower loop extended externally into the backward-facing hook. A copper alloy hooked tag dating from the Early Medieval period. The head plate is sub-triangular and features six holes: two large holes for the purpose of affixing tag to garment and four smaller holes with a stamped concentric ring-and-dot motif. A narrow hook projects from the apex of the plate and it seems that most of the hook survives, although it has been straightened. The tag has a light orange with a slightly rough, corroded surface. A copper alloy hooked tag of openwork design, with three loops of moulded rope. The circular knots of the rope are at the top of the hook below a triangular attachment loop with a straight top edge. There is a moulded collar at the top of the stem where it meets the base of the lower loop. A pointed hook curves over to the underside of the tag.

A copper alloy hooked tag The hook has a sub-circular open work plate with a rectangular loop at the top. The plate has foliate decoration with small leaves visible at the base where it tapers to a sharp pointed hook which curls over on itself at the back. The back of the tag is flat and undecorated. The hooked tag (or dress hook) measures 24.9mm in length, 14.23mm in width and 2.1mm in thickness. Similar examples appear in Geoff Egan’s ‘Material Culture in London in an age of transition’ p.44, Fig 25.

The upper part of a copper alloy hooked tag. This is in the form of a shield-shaped openwork plate. This is divided into three horizontal sections, with a pair of fleurs extending from a forked stem at the bottom of the central section to the bottom of the upper section (mostly open). There are two circular holes in the lower section with a smaller hole centrally above, between a branching stem. Four pellets are visible on the bottom edge and there is a pellet at the top of each of the fleurs. The hook is missing.

Flat central oval plate with two opposing protrusions one of which has been drawn out and curled under to form a loop, the other tapers and appears to have a missing 'tip'. The plate is heavily gilded and decorated with four equally spaced bulbous headed rivets with expanded tops resembling 'buns'. Each of the rivets have a shallow cross engraved on the top and also appear to have been gilded. The rivets are hammered flat to secure them on the reverse of the plate. No parallel has been found.
