End fragment of a Roman cosmetic or surgical implement, probably a spoon or spatula. Such objects were used for applying make up as a cosmetic and ointments in medicine. The fragment consists of a disc, 8.8 mm in diameter with the remainder of the shaft attached. There is a disc shaped rib in the shaft shortly before the break. Similar examples are illustrated in Crummy (1983, 60; 1897-1907). Such artefacts were in use throughout the Roman period.
