A medieval copper-alloy single-loop buckle with integral plate. Together, the frame and plate are pear-shaped, the latter terminating in a wider, round, lobe. An integral rivet of circular cross section extends backwards from the underside of this lobe. A circular perforation at the frame end of the plate represents the point at which the now-missing pin would have been attached. The frame has vertical inner edges and steeply sloping upper surfaces. A rounded pin rest projects outwards from the centre of the bowed frame. Length: 23 mm; width: 12.1 mm; thickness (including rivet): 5…

An incomplete copper-alloy medieval single-looped buckle of composite type with forked spacer dating to c. 1350 - 1450. The buckle is oval, lipped, with a small, rebated protrusion; the pin is missing. The bar is narrowed and appears cracked at its centre. Both of the forked spacers are truncated, one more than the other. The front of the frame is bevelled externally to a flat front. The prongs of the spacer are rebated beyond the junction of frame and plate; they narrow along their length, twice initially with a double stepped narrowing. A copper alloy rectangular buckle plate, decorated with incised vertical grooves and a central, horizontal bar with a punched zigzag and dots. Three damaged bars extend from the plate. The longest of these has part of the ring that held the rivet joining the plate to the leather. On the opposite side the plate is folded over to hold the, now missing buckle frame. The object is very likely to date from the Medieval period (1150-1350 AD) despite showing similarities with Late Roman to early Medieval buckle plates.

A cast copper-alloy Roman buckle-pin, perhaps a variation of the cruciform type. The pin would have terminated in a loop, the beginnings of which are still discernible although the majority is now missing following an old break. The tongue of the pin is arched. Side prongs curve round towards the loop end to form a pair of 'C's perpendicular to the tongue. The main body of the pin is decorated with a linear arrangement of ring-and-dot on the obverse; this decorative line parts before the tongue and continues along the obverse of the two side prongs. Dark brown patina. Buckle-pins…
