Post medieval cast copper alloy double loop buckle. The frame is D-shaped in section with a flat back and rounded front. The outer sides of both oval loops are widened with a row of seven pointed knops running along the entire outer edges. The widened strap bar is plain. The frame is now bent in on itself about 90 degrees. The pin is copper alloy, square in section, looped loosely around the strap bar and coming to a sharp point at the outer end. The general design is similar to no.384 in Whitehead (2003: 63) which he dates to c. AD 1550-1650.

Post Medieval cast copper-alloy asymmetrical buckle frame. The frame has one rectangular and one D shaped loop. About 20% of the rectangular loop is missing to a break. The D-shaped loop has a groove along the outer edge creating a thinned border. At the centre of the D shaped loop the inner side projects inwards in a point forming a wider area. The strap bar is narrowed. The pin is missing. Whitehead (2003:91) illustrates a similar example, no.570, without the groove on the D-shaped loop, which he dates to c. AD 1575-1700.

Medieval copper alloy double-looped buckle with separate strap and pin bar. The buckle is sub-rectangular in shape with the middle bar set closer to one end creating asymmetrical loops. The middle bar has a shallow groove across its centre with an indent on one side. The end of the smaller loop possibly has a row of stamped annulets running down it. A similar example is illustrated by Whitehead (1993:88) number 545 to which he gives a AD 1350-1450 date range.

Early Medieval curved rectangular copper alloy buckle plate. The buckle plate has traces of gilding on the geometric pattern on the front of the plate. The design consists of two borders of wrigglework one inside the other edged with plain lines. The two tabs that looped round the now missing buckle and pin have a line of wriggle work across them also. Four rivet holes in the front of the plate, two of which appear to retain the rivets. The gilding appears to have been better preserved in the areas covered by the rivet heads. The buckle appears to have been formed from one piece of me…

A cast copper alloy asymetrical buckle with drilled frame for separate bar. The frame thickens at the points where the pins rest. The iron corrosion on the frame appears to originate from the bar fittings as the bar itself is copper alloy. The frame is undecorated but there are traces of a black coating in places.

The pin consists of a forked section of metal rolled around the bar.The decorated surface of the buckle is obscured by corrosion but traces of black laquer can be seen. A very small complete single loop buckle. The inner frame has a raised ridge running round the curve but encrustation on the buckle has obscured any decoration there may have been. A similar raised flange can be seen on a larger, 1450-1550 example in Whitehead [p25 no 123] The pin consists of a rather thick lenght of metal folded round the bar. Because of the size of the pin there is little room on the bar for the strap/belt. No exact parallel has been found for this buckle but it is considered to be medieval.

A copper-alloy double-loop buckle of suggested Late Medieval date (cf. Whitehead 1996: 46). The frame is sub-oval in plan, the two equal-sized sides divided by an axis bar. The upper surfaces of the buckle are convex, the underside is flat. From one end of the frame there project outwards two angled 'tabs' of uncertain function. The buckle measures 39.5mm long, 29.6mm wide and 2.8mm thick. The weight is 7.74g.

A copper-alloy double-oval buckle of Late Medieval to early post-Medieval date. The frame is symmetrical, having two 'D-shaped' sides which angle upwards from a central axis bar. The upper surfaces slope downwards and outwards, there is a moulding at the points where the axis bar meets the frame and, at the centre of one of the outer sides, there is a transverse groove pin rest. The pin has been made from a length of flattened and tapering copper-alloy wire. It is looped loosely around the axis bar, it's point resting on the underside of the frame, beneath the aforementioned pin…
