A complete iron knife of Manning Type 1a, dating to the Roman period. This knife consists of a round suspension loop, a rectangular iron handle, and a parallel, straight-edged rectangular knife blade. This is in keeping with Type 1a, in that it "has an integral iron handle, usually rectangular in cross-section, which may occasionally be inlaid with another material, with a suspension loop at the end" (Manning 1989, 108). There are no similar PAS examples currently. See Manning 1989, Fig. 28, No. 1a. Specific dating uncertain.

A roughly C-shape iron object that may have been joined originally into a circle. This consists of two strands of 3mm thick wire that open to make four almost elliptical holes. The finder feels that this object could be a finger ring but although iron finger rings are known from Roman sites these are very different from this example. Despite extensive research it has not been possible to discover what this object is.

Part of an iron lever with a forked end (broken). The lever has a slightly curved handle with a knobbed end. Near the forked end of the handle are two semi-circular plates with a circular rivet through them for attachment to another object. The lever appears to have pivoted on this attachment. There is a short section of straight handle after this point before the lever forms a square, branched terminal. The ends of this appear to be broken. The photograph used for recording is unclear but there may be another circular screw or rivet on the handle below the area of attachment. The fin…

A fragment of an iron padlock slide key with a sub-circular bit. The bit has three rectangular holes. The hole nearest the end measures 11 x 7 mm and the two above measure 8 x 7mm each. A fragment of the shank remains (in the same plane as the bit) and is circular in section with a moulded ridge between the bit and the shank. There may be a metallic surface coating on this key. This corresponds to Goodall's type C padlock key (in Biddle 1990, 1022-1024), which date to the late 11th to end 13th century at Winchester.

An incomplete, wrought iron, Roman, probable, anvil, AD.43-450. The object comprises a cuboid block of iron, the top surface appears slightly domed from repeated striking. The sides appear to be fairly parallel, though there is a slight taper from the top to the bottom.. The object has a fairly even dark black patina with patches of orange oxidation. The sides of the anvil are pitted, probably from corrosion after deposition. The object can be compared to A1 in Manning's catalogue, (1976:Pl 1) though it lacks the lower wedge for connecting it to a block. Manning states that flat ba…
