A Medieval lead spindle whorl (1066-1500). The spindle whorl is a truncated cone in shape with a central perforation (diameter 8.58mm). The sloping sides are decorated with a moulded zig-zag motif, the decoration is even and regular for three-quarters of the circumference. On the final quarter the decoration becomes irregular with moulded vertical lines within the peaks and troughs of the zig-zags. There is some damage to the edges that appears to be modern. A copper alloy ?ferrule. The object is hollow and six-sided with two wider 'faces' on opposite sides and four narrow 'faces'. On each of the wider faces there is an engraved figure wearing a long flowing gown. The two figures vary slightly but they both face left. On both sides of each figure there is a vertical band of diagonal lines. One of the bands varies and is decorated with chevrons instead of diagonal lines.
