The strap end is rectangular in shape, widening towards the attachment end. The attachment end has a circular rivet in each corner, which was probably iron due to the corrosion surrounding the hole. The rivets run through to the back plate, however the middle of each rivet is now worn and missing. There are also two half circles on the terminal edge, these could either be spirals, or zoomorphic eyes. A Medieval copper-alloy strap-end. The object is comprised of two damaged, sub-rectangular plates, the upper of which is decorated with an incised design. Central to this design is a fleur-de-lis, executed in a serrated groove, with rocker-arm grooves filling the fields above and flanking the central stem. A plain field surrounds the central design, its outer limits defined by a groove whose curvature mirrors that of the lis. Beyond this, an indistinguishable pattern of grooves extends to the surviving limits of the plate. A rivet with domed head is located at the centre of the lis…

An incomplete copper-alloy strap-end, probably dating from the Middle to Late Early-Medieval periods. The attachment end has been lost in antiquity, leaving the body and basal terminal, both of which are of flat section. The body has scalloped edges and gradually narrows towards the bottom. A number of eliptical indentations decorate the body's upper surface, creating the impression of fur. The right- and left-hand sides of the terminal have a slight outward bow and converge towards the flat base. Two horizontal grooves divide the upper surface of the terminal into three bands.

A copper-alloy strap-end, probably dating from the Medieval period. The strap-end resembles a human arm and is probably incomplete. The widest point is at the top, where the underside is hollow and there is an in situ copper-alloy rivet at the base, which would have served to attached the now-missing back plate. The shallow depth of the hollow strap slot strongly suggests that the strap-end would originally have extended to a greater height. The base of the strap slot extends into the body of the strap-end, on one side there being an inward step at this junction, on the other a smoo…

Part of a copper alloy medieval strap end. The object now consists of a crescent shaped plate with pairs of six diagonal lines cut into it enclosed by a single line. The gilding survives in this decoration. There are four rivet holes roughly equally spaced around the crescent. There are traces of iron corrosion in one hole so the rivets may have been iron. At the outer edge of the widest point of the crescent there is a break. Complete examples of this type of 15th century strap end have a decorative protrusion in the form of a trefoil or a leaf. There would have been a circular back…

A copper-alloy strap-end of probable medieval date. The strap-end consists of two joined elements. The upper piece has a plain trapezoidal plate at the top and a zoomorphic head terminal at the bottom below in incurved waist. The top side of the plate is horizontal and the long sides are also straight, converging towards the bottom, where they extend into the waist. The detail on the zoomorphic head below is executed in high relief, with a series of oblique ridges and grooves in the upper surface representing the ears, eyes and nostrils. The second piece of the strap-end consists of a…
