Tania Dickinson has reviewed this brooch and commented as follows: "As far as I can establish there is not a close parallel to your brooch, because its facemask has clearly separate oval eyes, rounded eyering and rounded banded cheeks, but also integrates the eyebrows and moustache/upper lip (Class E2 and E3 integrate the eyebrows and cheeks, but might still be the closest).....it clearly is a developed form in (the Suzuki) sequence, which he dates broadly between 475 and 550. His Class E, which is particularly interrelated with masks on saucer brooches, is dated from c. 500-520". …

An incomplete early medieval cast copper alloy strap end belonging to Thomas' Class A, type 2. Approximately 60% present, what is liekly to have been a zoomorphic terminal is missing. The strap end tapers slightly towards the straight, split end and two closely set rivet holes for attachment. The rivets remain in place and are square and raised on the front, but circular and set flush against the surface on the back. On the body is a rectangular panel containing a multi-strand cross-hatched pattern and some (probably) chip carved cresent shapes along the border. Neillo appears to i…

Incomplete cast copper-alloy ansate brooch. 27mm long, 6.5mm wide and D-shaped in section. It has a rounded terminal with a thickened tip, possibly zoomorphic. A raised collar marks the border between the terminal and the curved bow, which has two collars at the apex. The break is just before the end of the bow. At the reverse of the terminal are two rectangular lugs, 7mm long and 4mm wide, with iron corrosion within the holes, suggesting an iron pin, now lost. Ansate brooches are Frankish in origin and used in England from the 8th to the 10th centuries.

Complete cast gilded copper-alloy 'axe-shaped' mount of Early Anglo-Saxon date. This shape is also sometimes referred to as 'pelta-shaped'. The mount is probably from horse harness, and is roughly trapezoidal in shape. The longest edge curves outwards slightly, whilst the other three edges curve inwards. The reverse of the mount is flat with some corrosion and traces of gilding. Two prongs are placed close to the upper and lower edges. These are incomplete and circular in section, but probably ended in a point to enable the mount to be fixed to leather. The prongs measure 4mm long …

A copper-alloy stirrup-strap mount of probable 11th century date. The vertical portion of the artefact consists of an openwork lozenge in which a central saltire divides four lozenge-shaped holes. At the centre of the upper surface is a circular moulding; seven further such mouldings are equally spaced around the mount, including one at each of the two outer points. At the top the lozenge extends into the rounded apex loop with circular perforation. A probable modern forgery of an silver penny of Offa of Mercia (757-96), light coinage (Chick 27; North 287), mint: London, moneyer: Dud. Ref: Chick 2010; North 1994: 86; Naismith & Naylor 2012, no. 5. The style of the lettering on this penny is very unusual, and more sharply defined than is normally the case with Offa's pennies. It is also extremely heavy for a Light penny. For these reasons, it should probably be dismissed as a modern forgery.

This is an incomplete cast copper alloy brooch, most likely dating to the Anglo-Saxon (early Medieval) period. Although the brooch has eluded specific typological identification, it is most similar in shape and style to Anglo-Saxon Radiate Headed Brooches (in this case without radiate finials) or a Small-Long Brooch derivative. The object is geometric in design, with a semi-circular head, an outward curving rectangular neck, and an elongated and triangular catchment end. The pin attachments are intact, with a simple hinge and horizontally protruding catchment plate. However, the pin …
