A gold and gem medieval brooch of 12th century date. The brooch is annular, circular in plan with eight raised collets set equally spaced around the frame. Each collet contains a gem of alternating garnets and sapphires. Between each gem is a raised boss with punched decoration and surmounted by an open fruit pod. Both the internal and external edge of the frame is beaded. The pod with seeds within and the remains of the flower beyond it, most probably represents the fruit of the broom.
