Broken copper-alloy and enamel Roman dragonesque brooch, complete with pin, dating to c. 50 - 150 AD. The brooch has an S-shaped body with elaborate terminals. The terminals take the form of a curved triangle with an oval extension and they are decorated on the front face: the triangles have a central circular depression and the oval extensions have a pair of connected oval knobs within a recession that retains traces of blue enamel. An incomplete, copper alloy enamelled Dragonesque brooch dating from late 1st or 2nd century AD. The brooch survives almost complete with only one of the terminal heads missing. The pin is still in place, bent around the body of the brooch. Although most of the enamel is missing, it is in excellent condition. The surface is dark brown and shiny and smooth to the touch. An incomplete copper alloy penannular brooch of the Iron Age to Roman Period, dating to 100 BC - AD 100. About 90% of the brooch remains, the pin is missing. The brooch is sub oval in shape and circular in cross section. It comprises of a thin open hoop. Half way there is a notch or dent in the hoop, this is where the pin would have sat. The terminals are circular in plan and rectangular in cross section. They are made from the flattened end of the hoop, which have been turned up and rolled into a spiral. A cast copper alloy Roman flat enamelled disc (sexfoil) plate brooch with a flat and plain edge dating from the late first to mid-second century AD. The brooch is circular in plan and displays a six-pointed sexfoil star pattern. The inside of the star retains a small amount of red enamel, while the outer field retains a small amount of black enamel. Very small silver annular brooch dating from the medieval period that is the 14th/15th century. There are six equidistant cross hatched knops surmounting the frame which is rounded on the front and flat on the back. Medieval brooch consisting of a circular frame with grooved decoration at four equidistant points. Black niello decoration remains in some of the grooves but is missing in most of them. An almost complete copper-alloy early Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch dating to the 5th or 6th century AD. The headplate is rectangular and measures 22mm in length and 21mm in width. The front of the headplate is decorated with a slightly raised central panel and a pair of wings which slope slightly to their edges, the best-preserved of which is decorated with a border groove. Early Roman cast copper-alloy zoomorphic Dragonesque brooch, incomplete as the tail is missing and also the pin. A crudely made example with angular edges, unlike most others this has a reversed 'S' shape. The reverse is flat with many parallel scratch marks which probably derive from the movement of the pin. The obverse is decorated with a 'Celtic-style' moulded decoration and there are circles in relief on each 'dragon's head', mimicking an eye and a smaller nostril. Cast copper-alloy Roman Trumpet brooch, complete except for the pin. The pin was part of a hinge mechanism and there is no spring coil underneath the plain trumpet-shaped head. The small head stud is plain and the large, heavy bow is decorated with the for this brooch type typical alternating petal/reel mouldings. Furthermore, it seems that at some point, after the foot had broken off it was replaced/repaired with a small metal sheet (probably bronze) which was attached to the remainder of the original foot with two very small rivets which are fragmentary today. Incomplete Wirral type brooch dating from the Roman period: Circular lead, edge damaged. It is decorated with a transverse ridge and regular incised lines. The upper side of the bow is divided into three rectangular panels down to the mid bow. Inlaid with enamel in squares - only three cells survive. There is an extension at the mid bow. Below the lower bow tapers to a missing foot. The hinged pin and the copper alloy axis bar is secured in pierced lugs.
