Silver ingot fragment and fragment of white metal casting debris from the Carnforth area, Lancashire The find consists of two items: a) a fragment of a silver ingot; and b) what appears to be a molten fragment of casting debris. Both objects were found on exactly the same spot as a small Viking hoard found in the 1990s, the Carnforth or Tewitfield Hoard, and are most likely unrecovered pieces from it. a) Surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate silver content for the ingot fragment of 96 - 98%, the remainder being copper, gold and lead.
