The outside of the band is decorated with engraved designs of a poppy, a rose and a thistle with a black background (in enamel). The bezel consists of a skull and crossbones picked out in white enamel. It is in very good condition and all the detail is very clear. Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast lead decorative object, possibly a mount in the form of a skeleton. It has cast decoration on both sides and appears complete. One side is more worn than the other and so the decoration is not as clear. The object has a central motif of a skeleton with arms raised up to horizontal. The head is above the edge of the object and so sticks out. There are 4 circular holes, one below each arm and also 2 where the feet should be. The use of skeletons as a motif is most common around the 17/18th centuries. For example they are often used on 17th and 18th century mourning rings.
