Small cast lead-alloy semi-circle of unknown use. The object seems to be complete: it has a moulded decoration of vertical grooves on the obverse and a small cast lug on the reverse. There is no loop or similar for attachment or suspension and the other point where (possibly) some breakage may have occurred is the centre of the horizontal edge.

It is circular with a central perforation. It appears undecorated. There are no wear marks, but it is possibly a furniture or horse mount.

Cast cu-alloy token, probably made from a re-used coin or metal disc, dating from the later post-medieval or early modern period, i.e. c. 1700-1900. The disc was very worn when it was re-worked into a token and there was a strong possibility that it had been a Roman as or dupondius. However, Dr D Shotter had a look at the token and couldn't identify it as a Roman coin. Furthermore, the disc is too thick to have been a post-medieval or early modern coin. It now seems more likely that it just started out as a flat piece of casting residue which was then stamped and turned into a token. T…

Very small triangular unidentified object, probably a fragment of a cu-alloy dress accessory or belt strap dating from the medieval, post-medieval or modern period. The fragment is very worn, plan on the reverse and possibly decorated with parallel grooves on the obverse. However, it is so small and worn that it is impossible to tell what it was initially part of.

Unidentified object, probably dating from the Late Bronze Age c. 1000-800 BC. The object is broken in two large fragments and some small pieces are missing. Other than that, it appear complete. It has a long, narrow and slightly tapered tube with transverse linear groove decoration and with a blunted point at one end, and an open dome at the opposite end. This object is in two fragments and seems to have been broken off where the tube was perforated by a slit or hole. There is another small hole on the tube just underneath the round open end. Unfortunately, even though the object is c…

Cast cu-alloy unidentified object, possibly a six-sided brass gaming counter and dating from the 18th or 19th century. It is solid-cast with a perforation in the centre, possibly to receive the central pin/handle around which the spinner was spun. It has the size of a six-sided spinner or (Jewish) dreidel, but most of the Jewish dreidels are four-sided and only very few six-sided. Unfortunately, the surfaces are to worn to make out any numbering or lettering. An example of a six-sided dreidel/dreidl can be found here: http://www.gamesmuseum.uwaterloo.ca/VirtualExhibits/Tablegame…

An lead alloy object of uncertain function. The object is circular in plan and is D-shaped in cross-section. The flat face is rough and uneven with no visible pitting. Due to its undiagnostic nature it cannot be dated closely however the condition of the lead suggests a Post-Medieval date is likely. The object may have functioned as a palm guard however there are no diagnostic features. Palm guards were for use by a leather worker to protect the palm whilst stitching. Bailey (1995, 64-65) dates such objects to the 17th century onwards.

Small cast cu-alloy fragment, roughly shaped like a flat cylinder. Sharply moulded/carved decoration on what seems to be the obverse. If it was rectangular or square it could be a type from a printing press, but the surface is very worn and the sharp ridges on the obverse incomplete. It probably dates from the Post-Medieval/Early Modern period, judging from the patina of the metal.

Cast cu-alloy handle, possibly a drawer pull, of late post-medieval or early modern date, i.e. 1700-1900. It is roughly shaped like a buckle frame, but since there is no perforation for the pin, it does not seem to be a buckle with integral plate. The attachment/pivoting point seems to be at the back of the object. The shape and size of the loop suggests that it was probably used as a handle. The surface is very corroded and none of the decoration survives. This makes a positive identification difficult. The FLO has not seen the object; identification was provided from emailed image. I…

Cast lead-alloy fragment, possibly the arm of a crucifix dating from the late post-medieval or earlier modern period, i.e. 1500-1800. The fragment is roughly triangular-shaped and decorated with a very basic inset scrollwork pattern. The only point that shows breakage is at the narrow end which suggests that it may have been part of a crucifix. The artefact was badly made and there is a casting flaw at one of the corners where there was not enough lead-alloy to fill the mould.

Fragment of a cast cu-alloy vessel or boss, probably dating from the late post-medieval or early modern period. The fragment is too small to allow for a definite identification. The fragment seems to have come off the rim of a small bowl or boss. The metal is fairly thick and the inside does not look worked or smoothed which suggests that it was hidden from sight. Two very small rivet holes remains near the rim of the fragment; the whole bowl/boss would have had approx. six rivet holes, given that there was the same distance between each two of them. The outer rim is decorated with sim…

Cast cu-alloy (probably) tool of uncertain date. Is was made from an alloy with a high percentage of copper by the looks of it; its surface is shiny and smooth. However, the identification is hampered by the bumpy overall surface. The object seems complete, but not very well cast when made. It may have possibly been a tool for woodworking.

Cast bronze object of uncertain date and function. The object is sub-rectangular in plan and rectangular in cross-section. The surface of the object is uneven; one edge is straight while the others have broken in antiquity. There is a large circular perforation at the top edge of the object and a smaller perforation diagonal to this at the lower edge. These may have been intended to contain rivets. The function of the object is unknown however the patina indicates that it has some age to it. It has a mid-green patina.
