Cast copper alloy central suspension loop from a purse bar dating from the later medieval or early post-medieval period, that is c. AD1450-1550. The loop is sub-rectangular in shape with a central rectangular hole and a large tripartite collar moulding underneath. The shaft is broken, but would have terminated in a small knop, stopping the purse bar itself from sliding off. The arms of the purse bar would have been broadly sub rectangular in plan and probably D shaped in cross section with plain terminals. The underside of the bar has a flange projecting downwards, through which ar…

Copper alloy object with double loop at both extremities one small and the other large likely to date from the medieval to the post-medieval period 1200-1600AD. The loops are decorated with incised lines with a closed hand gripping the larger loop and two long rounded projections at either side. It is probably too small for a terret and the appearance is more like a purse bar, but it could well be some item of horse harness, as there are hands holding (loose) rings on snaffle bits. Probably not Roman as they are usually hands holding fruit and other spherical objects. A snaffle bit ma…

At the junction of the central block and arm is a moulded zoomorphic animal-head grasping the arm in its mouth. Underneath the arms is an integral plate/s, with two circular attachment or sewing holes in each. Above this the arm is decorated with incised cr…
